Fresh & Easy To Open Smaller Express Units

Post by Alpha8472 »

Fresh & Easy plans to test a smaller format called Fresh & Easy Express.

These stores will be less than half the size of current Fresh & Easy stores at 4,000 feet compared to a regular Fresh & Easy store of 10,000 feet. They will be located in Southern California in Los Angeles and Orange County.

A small format like this is even closer to a convenience store. Fresh & Easy already has such a limited selection of products that people have to go elsewhere just to get the rest of their shopping done.

It isn't convenient if you have to make 2 stops to get your shopping done. People will simply get frustrated and do all of their shopping at a full sized supermarket. We don't want less of a selection. We want more selection or else it is not worth our time to shop there.

I'm guessing this will end up something like a Famima! They have been building a lot of these in downtown Los Angeles and they're very convenient in densely populated areas.

If you haven't been to a Famima! think of it as an upscale 7-11 with friendly service.

Famima is more like a stylish Japanese convenience store. They have a high style upscale decor with wood floors and fancy Japanese food. It's totally different from Fresh & Easy.

Fresh & Easy isn't high style and they don't have the fun Japanese pop culture feel. I've never gone to Fresh & Easy for good customer service. They are entirely self-checkout. There are no cashiers and it is difficult to find help.

People love Famima for the Japanese food and it is a place for people to browse for pop culture novelties. Fresh & Easy isn't going to take away any of their customers.
