The lingering question, the Times points out, is the fate of the El Monte factory as well as the recipes themselves.

While they said there’s no plans to usurp the Jewel-Osco branding, this does sound like the final death of the Sav-On brand name.

I wonder if the Sav-On brand name has any value at this point... is it more valuable than the Rite Aid name on storefronts? How much value does either name really have...?

I noticed today that the Longview, WA Rite Aid is undergoing a remodel, which is the first since a major remodel in the mid-2000s (after the indoor Triangle Mall was demolished, this building, a former Pay 'N Save/PayLess, was the only remaining building and received an extensive remodel at that time). On the outside signs are being replaced and updated. On the inside, new flooring and wall painting is underway. One interesting note is that they are moving the back wall by the pharmacy forward maybe 20 feet to make the store itself smaller. I am not sure how much the rest of the store will be remodeled, or the reason behind moving the wall as that space isn't really suitable for much except maybe an office area or more warehouse space.

We still have several Albertsons-Oscos in Phoenix, the lone outpost of the Osco brand out West.
