Rite Aid changes logo

Post by storewanderer »

https://www.pennlive.com/life/2020/03/i ... -logo.html

I would rather see Rite Aid use its (rather limited) money to improve the productivity of its operations than on a new logo. Maybe build a few more new stores... The old logo always looked a bit odd to me but logo changes are not cheap and I think there are other more pressing matters for them to tend to than the logo.

The new logo, just looks bland and does not stand out. It is not bright enough or eye catching enough.

Also very curious with this press release saying new stores will have an "open pharmacy counter for the pharmacy staff to come out and interact with the customer." That is how their new stores have been for a decade now. But, within the past few months, they've installed glass between the customer and the pharmacy staff in all of their CA Stores (not sure about elsewhere) that looks more like a movie theater box office than a pharmacy.

Rite Aid better be prepared for even more robberies. The local pharmacies in the San Francisco Bay Area have been robbed like crazy these past few months. They don't want it on the news, but it is getting very bad. Criminals know they can sell these narcotic pills for tons of money on the streets. These criminals are getting bolder and bolder. Now that the pharmacist is out in the open, a robber can put a gun to the pharmacist's back and make them give the robber access to all of the drugs in the pharmacy. One of these days there will be dead pharmacy employees in the news. Even Walmart had to change their open pharmacy counter design. Any Walmart pharmacy that remodels, has to get rid of the open counter. There were too many robberies. However, there are still lots of Walmart pharmacies that have not been remodeled due to Walmart being such a cheapskate company. A pharmacy robbery is not just the loss of drugs. If a pharmacy is robbed too often, the DEA will try to take away the pharmacy's license and shut down the pharmacy. Losing the pharmacy license would be a huge loss in profits and it will cause the rest of the store to lose customers.

Pharmacies need to be as secure as banks. The counters should be high so that robbers cannot jump the counter easily. There should be protective plexiglass barriers so that robbers cannot shoot employees. The plexiglass also would be a good idea as the sneezing and coughing of customers will certainly spread airborne diseases to employees. Those employees would spread diseases to customers and spread them all over the pills. The only opening in the glass should be a two door plexiglass box where medications are passed through. They should speak through a microphone like at the movie theater glass box office.

The announcement that Rite Aid will give up tobacco sales is not surprising. This could indicate that Rite Aid is near death. They want to be able to appease CVS. CVS insurance charges a higher copay at pharmacies in stores that sell tobacco. If Rite Aid stopped selling tobacco, the copays for CVS insurance patients would be lower. More customers with CVS insurance would flock to Rite Aid over Walgreens or Walmart. Rite Aid would welcome a takeover by CVS.

The new Rite Aid logo has the Albertsons leaf logo. Albertsons is going to sue. Unless, by some weird turn of events Rite Aid decides to take over the pharmacies inside of Albertsons stores.

Looks like a logo for a specialty pharmacy, not what I think of when I think of a logo for a drug store. To me, this looks more odd than the new Kroger logo.
I don't think redesigning logos is a great idea. Why? Some logos, like the last Kroger logo (a logo in use since the 60's) were very recognizable and iconic.

Not sure a new logo is the proper thing for them at this time. However, there are several versions of signage currently in use and it does make some sense to use a consistent logo.

The new logo is very corporate but looks weak. It doesn't have any impact IMHO.

Actually, looking at the photo in that article linked above, it sort of looks like the "open" front counter would only be for where people are picking up their prescriptions. The drawers/doors in the wall look to be for storing prescriptions that have been filled and are waiting for pickup, and perhaps they are designed to open both ways (such that someone behind that wall actually filling them can insert them from the back for the person running the register to pull out from the front).

That would seem to be at least somewhat more secure - even if the pharmacist came out to talk to someone, he/she wouldn't necessarily be able to get back into the secured area (where the majority of drugs would be stored) as easily as just walking back, so if someone was trying to get stuff they'd be limited to what was already filled (not as likely to be a huge number of the more desirable items at one time)?

FWIW San Francisco has always been like that. My mom was kidnapped in San Francisco in the 1960's and held for ransom at a pharmacy by a drug addict trying to get some medicine. Craziness goes back a long way in the Bay Area.

The majority of Rite Aid stores in my area are ex-Thrifty and PayLess stores with red logos. There are only a few stores with the standard Rite Aid logo (those stores are late 90's/2000's builds).

Weak is a good way to describe the new logo. It needs some brighter colors or something. A lot of people will drive right past Rite Aid without even noticing it, with that logo.
