Kmart quietly closing more stores including Vancouver, WA

I am surprised the Vancouver store stayed open as long as it did. Sears has a store less than a mile away, as does Target, and Vancouver has three Walmarts with more in the works.

The article has a neat interior photo of opening day in 1975.

Kuni currently does not operate dealerships in Vancouver, and it will be interesting to see if they can open a "higher end" dealership here.

I did visit this Kmart yesterday. Noted the front overhang had a LOT of moss buildup. Inside I also noted that the pharmacy was closed and there were notes saying that prescriptions were transferred to a nearby Walgreens. But there was one oddity, a guy walking around trying to sell windows and entering people in a drawing for a Kmart gift card...in a closing Kmart. The store has a tentative closing date of Feb. 14th, but it is emptying out quickly and may close sooner.

The Bremerton store doesn't surprise me. It's in a dead strip mall (sharing anchorage with a dilapidated Rite Aid and an empty Lowe's/Eagle Hardware) and the Kmart itself is really dumpy.

I wonder if Kmart will ultimately formally exit regions, like the west coast. They really don't have many stores as it is and the quiet closures have not helped their case any.

I'm not one bit surprised they are closing that S. Cicero Store. Any other department store chain would have shuttered that store a long time ago, given the neighborhood.
