In San Diego, the prices of some items (such as food) at standard Target stores vary from store to store. The Sports Arena Blvd Target (which shares a wall with a Ralphs, has a VONS in back of it, and a Grocery Outlet down the street) typically charges up to 15% more than the Mission Valley Target on food and some OTC drugs. That makes me wonder whether the price differential is not a function of mini- vs maxi-Target but is a function of local competition.

Berkeley, California and the rest of the San Francisco Bay Area has a very high cost of living. Everything costs more due to the high minimum wage of many of the cities. Berkeley has a minimum wage of $12.53 and nearby Oakland has a minimum wage of $12.55. Walmart closed its Oakland store in part due to the high minimum wage. The store was very high volume, but it was not cost effective with the amount of shoplifting and high employee wages. The city right next to Berkeley is Emeryville and it has a minimum wage of $14.82. In a matter of months, the minimum wage will go up again and it will be well over $15.

The Target stores in this area do have different prices for identical items.
