I'm really surprised the number isn't higher...their B&M stores really don't serve much of a purpose anymore (ditto for OfficeMax/Depot). Their tech selection isn't broad enough too appeal to most people, and you can pretty much pick up basic office supplies anywhere from Walgreens to Costco (and most major businesses use a mail order delivery service for more oddball supplies, which is where Staples (and its Quill division) makes most of it's money.)

Staples Stores have become so poorly run; dirty and messy. Understaffed with extremely slow checkout. Office Depot despite its problems seems to run much better stores (they don't really seem any better or worse than they ever were, operationally). There was a time when Staples was the best. It has been quite a fall...
