A tale of two malls: Pocatello and Idaho Falls, Idaho

Post by SamSpade »

Interesting dissection / history lesson about two malls in the eastern Idaho communities, although it would have been interesting to hear a bit more on the history of Pine Ridge (located in Pocatello suburb Chubbuck) and the fact that both centers also killed two older 1960s build interior malls in their communities (now replaced with Fred Meyer stores and strip center retail).

Interesting article. Price was also responsible for the development of Boise Towne Square. Boise was in an interesting position in the 1980s as major department stores were all still downtown, and there was an effort to locate an enclosed mall downtown. The only major enclosed mall in the Boise area at the time was Nampa's Karcher Mall. The Boise mall has done well.

Price also was responsible for the development of Kelso, Washington's Three Rivers Mall, which did ok at first, but has struggled for years. It actually seemed well-run until Price sold the mall.
