Sonoma County’s G&G Supermarkets purchased by Safeway

News articles reported that G&G Supermarkets closed yesterday, though I don't know if they'll redecorate the ENTIRE store or not (one of them was remodeled relatively recently IIRC). I do wonder why Safeway can't just keep it as G&G Supermarkets and then slowly transition in like how Pik 'n Save is being "Kroger-ized". I'm sure it's not for the sole reason of letting G&G Supermarkets die as itself and what customers loved about it.

G&G Supermarkets were supposed to reopen as Safeway sometime in mid-December, presumably to be able to catch the Christmas shopping season. Unfortunately, Safeway doesn't put the "opening dates" on their website anymore unless it's a 1-2 days away (it seems).

EDIT: Just called the store. Got an automated message the store would open December 19th.
EDIT 2: Safeway's store locators say December 21st.
