The former Lucky Headquarters and distribution center in San Leandro is now a construction site for a new Kaiser Permanente Medical Center. Native American remains have been found.
Albertsons inherited the distribution center when they took over Lucky. Albertsons decided to close down the distribution center several years ago so they could sell the land. It was a huge piece of land that was worth quite a lot of money.
I remember when I was a kid I would pass by the Lucky distribution center to visit my aunt. There were hundreds of Lucky trucks and the entire area was a vast expanse of land and warehouses. My aunt used to work down the street from this place at Safeway's Corporate Accounting Office. Strangely enough they moved that office back to Oakland and then eventually to a Safeway Corporate office complex in Walnut Creek.
The new Kaiser Hospital will open in about 3 years.
