Re: Store Locations Closed by Hurricane Harvey in Houston Area
Meyerland's probably toast, it would probably have to do very well for them to renovate it and reopen it again, especially as that format is outmoded. The building is much older than H-E-B, too.architect wrote:Three HEB stores have been extensively damaged in the Houston area and will be closed for some time for repairs. These include the Meyerland and Kingwood locations, along with a Joe V's in the eastern part of the city.

Kingwood is actually really new, it opened less than a year ago. It replaced an older store that opened in 2002 (former Albertsons)
I don't know exactly what Joe V's they refer to.

Re: Store Locations Closed by Hurricane Harvey in Houston Area
The Joe V's which is closed is on Uvalde Road; it is near several creeks which likely contributed to the flood damage. I can guarantee that the Kingwood store will reopen due to location alone, the other two I'm not as sure about. It would likely make more sense for HEB to find an alternate site for the Meyerland store vs continuing to rebuild in such a flood-prone spot immediately adjacent to a bayou, particularly when the store is outdated anyway.pseudo3d wrote:Meyerland's probably toast, it would probably have to do very well for them to renovate it and reopen it again, especially as that format is outmoded. Re: Store Locations Closed by Hurricane Harvey in Houston Area
Since H-E-B doesn't have a new site in the wings for Meyerland (Braeswood), they'll either renovate and reopen like before, or they won't, and close permanently. The West 18th store near the Heights, for instance, is a Pantry but does have a replacement store coming a few miles to the north (planned, may or may not have started building).architect wrote:The Joe V's which is closed is on Uvalde Road; it is near several creeks which likely contributed to the flood damage. Re: Store Locations Closed by Hurricane Harvey in Houston Area
Based on this aerial view taken over the last day or so, it appears that a minimum, the following store locations have been directly affected by flooding and will be closed for some time:
Link: https://storms.ngs.noaa.gov/storms/harvey/index.html
HEB
Kingwood Market
Braeswood/Chimney Rock
Randalls
Kingwood (across the street from aforementioned HEB)
Kroger
249/Cypresswood (this store has flooded previously before, including during the 2016 Tax Day floods)
Target
Humble (parking lot completely covered in dirt in photo, this will clearly be a long restoration)
Beltway 8/Monroe (parking lot at least appears to be in bad shape, I cannot tell if water made it into the store itself)

Great article about HEB's Disaster Response team, along with photos of the flooded Kingwood store:

Re: Store Locations Closed by Hurricane Harvey in Houston Area
Add the Champion Forest/Cypresswood Kroger to the the list (just down the street from the other flooded store). Kroger has already announced that both stores will open via social media and large Houston Strong banners over the doors.architect wrote:Based on this aerial view taken over the last day or so, it appears that a minimum, the following store locations have been directly affected by flooding and will be closed for some time:

The closed Randalls in Kingwood took on around six feet of water, but the chain will be reopening this location and already has replacement equipment on order for the store according to a Randalls official at a Kingwood outreach event last week.
Also, a recent Houston Chronicle details the reopening plans for other local chains. Kroger expects that both of their damaged stores will reopen in the next 2-3 months. HEB should be able to reopen their damaged Joe V's by the beginning of October, but their Kingwood store likely wont reopen until next year while plans for the Meyerland store are still being determined. It would not surprise me if HEB is scouting out an alternate location for Meyerland.

Re: Store Locations Closed by Hurricane Harvey in Houston Area
So, Kroger reopens, Randalls reopens, and H-E-B makes delays. Just like Ike, huh?architect wrote: ↑October 3rd, 2017, 9:12 pmAnother update:architect wrote: ↑September 4th, 2017, 7:18 amAdd the Champion Forest/Cypresswood Kroger to the the list (just down the street from the other flooded store).
