Yum! Brands has sold Long John Silver's and A&W.
Long John Silver's was sold to LJS Partners LLC, a company formed by a consortium of franchisee leaders and other investors.
A&W is being purchased by A Great American Brand LLC, a group formed by a franchisee leader with substantial interests in international A&W restaurants and the National A&W Franchisees Association.
Now that these companies are independent, it will be interesting to see if these 2 companies expand or improve their restaurants. Yum! Brands hasn't done much for these 2 restaurants, so any changes could be for the better.

There is one of these combos here in Portland, at the corner of SE Powell Blvd. & 82nd Ave.
Another exists in Oregon City (Hilltop).

There are also a handful of KFC\LJS combos around here as well, which seem to be the only presence LJS has in this area (and even that is relatively recent.) I'm guessing that there will either be some sort of agreement in place to keep running them as is, or they'll eventually just get converted to straight KFCs.

Re: Long John's Silvers and A&W Sold
After several months, the local KFC/A&W seems to be operating as usual. Nothing has changed. The store still serves the same food. Although, it may just be the store that I visit, they stopped offering root beer on tap. It is now only available at the self serve soda fountain.
