Stater Bros. New Decor - back to the 80s?
Stater Bros. Is showing off this brand new decor package and placed pictures on their Facebook site for comment. I was a big fan of their most recent decor which was similar to colorful lifestyle. This is just a mess. Color clashes and terrible 80's style photography. What are they thinking?

Looks hideous.
Makes an Albertsons from the early 2000's look modern by comparison.

Parts of it look okay, others look straight out of the 80's.
I wonder why they keep trying to change decor...
If they just had solid color backgrounds on the walls it would look very similar to the Kroger 2010's decor... or even the repainted lifestyle stores.
Not sure how much it matters, the way the store is operated and if it is clean and orderly are probably more important factors. It doesn't look off putting - just feels dated.

I don't remember anything looking like that in the 1980's but I will say it looks terrible. It's just a jumbled mess thrown together with no theme or color coordination. Hopefully they dump this prototype ASAP.

The giant wallpaper pictures are what reminds me of the 80s.
The more I think about this, Albertsons has been aggressive about upgrading stores in the IE this last year, and the majority are receiving full colorful lifestyle decor. It is very similar to the previous "all new" decor of Stater especially the earth tone colors. So maybe they felt they didn't have a choice but to roll something different that doesn't look like anyone else. But they didn't have to be so... Ugly.

Looks to be a disparate mix of other retailers' design motifs!

3 Express Lanes; that's good w/ no self checkout.
What's the topper on lane 5 I wonder? (the ol' "Family Friendly" bit some stores have?)
It's clean and seems brightly lit. I don't understand branding the delicatessen area as 'family favorites' though, other than to spark one of the ways people use cold cuts and cheese? That kind of seems like the designers idea of the large signs was to do this.
Where I grew up, stores did not have the large printed images of food. That came in the '00s with Safeway just before Lifestyle.
Red and sans serif made me briefly think 'Smart and Final Extra!' and also a little bit 'oh, what SEG was trying to remodel WinnDixie into.'

Re: Stater Bros. New Decor - back to the 80s?
Good question - maybe one of those "no candy" lanes that some stores offer? Or also possibly one that is a bit larger to make it easier for those who may be in wheelchairs or motorized carts to get through - some stores do that as well.
