A place to discuss the impact of the Kroger-Albertsons merger, specifically on the southeast region.

Retail Watchers considers the southeastern United States as Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. In this area, 28 Albertsons stores in Texas and Louisiana would be divested.
(PR Newswire) Two of the affected Albertsons stores would be in Louisiana. (The Advocate)

Kroger's operations through its Atlanta, Delta, Nashville divisions and Harris Teeter would not be impacted directly. Operations in the Dallas and Houston divisions, which cover Louisiana, could be reorganized with Albertsons' South Region operations (Houston Division, Southern Division, Southern California Division, Southwest Division, and United Division). Any changes could occur through division and support realignments.

None of the official lists have been published for Louisiana, only speculation. However, I feel there would likely be four Albertsons stores in danger:

Alexandria has a large, newer Kroger on MacArthur Drive, just north of the South Traffic Circle (MacArthur at US165S), and an older Albertsons at the circle. The Albertsons has held on for years, but struggles at times due to its location by Alexandria Mall.

Lake Charles has a new Kroger at Country Club Rd and Nelson. Albertsons has two stores nearby, on Country Club and another next to McNeese State University on S Ryan and W Sale, next to an old Kmart.

Shreveport has a 1997 Kroger on Youree Dr., a new Kroger Marketplace on Flournoy Lucas, and an old (1972) Albertsons on Southfield Dr.

Albertsons also has stores in the Lafayette (4) and Baton Rouge (8) markets going as far east as Hammond, a smaller store.
