This store opened in a space that was originally Montgomery Ward, at some point in the late 80s-early 90s. Although it's not a surprise any more that Sears is closing stores, I am somewhat surprised by this one as this is in the Sandusky Mall, which attracts many shoppers not only in the immediate area, but is also along one of the main routes to Cedar Point amusement park. The mall seems to do ok.
A mostly blue-collar town should be able to keep a Sears busy. However, Sandusky has had new competition come in, not only Lowe's and Home Depot, but a big Menards store, Meijer, Walmart, as well as a Kroger Marketplace which just opened this week could have played a factor here.
