Hattiesburg - not served by any national grocer except maybe one Winn Dixie. Pretty good college town.
2 Walmart Supercenters (WM is a grocer at this point...), two nice looking stores called Corner Market, Sunflower Market,
a terrible looking Winn Dixie from photo of interior *and* exterior Google map, Target with a pFresh department. For a town of just over 40,000 looks like plenty of options.

Walmart and Save-a-Lot both seem to have a decent amount of stores in this region.

Walmart and Save-a-Lot both have a few stores in this town of just under 36,000.

They could probably take over Mississippi without any effort, but they would face a challenge in Louisiana unless they learn the state and its tastes. That's where Rouses has done extremely well. They don't always win on price, but you cannot beat their service and selection. That's where they have faltered outside Louisiana - nobody outside the state knows what they're offering.

I did not count Walmart for one reason: they are in every equation.
Save-A-Lot is not a traditional grocer; they are what is known as limited assortment. Aldi, Ruler Foods and S-A-L are all in this group.
