If 7-Eleven is spun off would there be improvements? 7-Eleven is really awful and inconsistent. I don't know if any changes will make 7-Eleven better. A spin off could make things worse.
7-Eleven in Japan is so well run. The stores are amazingly clean and sell many items that are very high quality. The variety of food is staggering.
These gas stations fast food restaurant and convenience store combinations are really interesting.

Re: 7-Eleven Expanding
7-Eleven acquired 3 sites in Reno/Sparks with attached Wendys (1) and Carls Jr (2) in the early 2000's. These were large complexes with car wash, other food concepts, oil change, etc. built in the late 90's/early 00's. 7-Eleven is just the tenant running the gas/c-store and the other spaces are tenant spaces leased out to others.
I don't see a spin off helping 7-Eleven in the US. I am wondering if it may hurt them as the Japanese parent has funded some of these acquisitions in an effort to help 7-Eleven US and I am not clear if they could fund that stuff alone.
7-Eleven in the US must be a cash cow with the franchise arrangement and that is fine. They can keep those 40 year outdated c-stores that seem to make money for franchise operators and provide a terrible customer experience in less than great neighborhoods.
Then they can have Speedway as a brand for the new/modern/superior corporate operated stores. The problem is if you start to associate 7-Eleven with Speedway, you ruin Speedway's good/neutral name by affiliating it with a terrible name like 7-Eleven.
