Safeway closed Porterville, Visalia, and Tulare in 1984 citing "high labor costs" per the Tulare Advance-Regster.

I wonder if they were in a bay area union or something and other stores out there were in a different union with lower wage scales.

We know they had other stores in Fresno too, in the past. Like that Ventura thing. I think 4040 N. West was a 70's model Safeway. Fruit was obviously a 50's store and the Pak N Save was from the 80's.
