The current store was one of several acquired from Farmer Jack in 2007, and has received only one remodel, to the Flagship Script decor.
The new store, which opens April 21, is a complete remodel of a former Kmart store, and cost $20 million to do so.
I wouldn't be surprised if a year from now the current store reopens as a Target or something.

Re: Kroger relocation, Saint Clair Shores, MI
It's a brand new store -- they tore down the old K-Mart. At 74K SF, it's a fairly large store, although it was initially proposed as a Marketplace. The Michigan market is one of the few in which Kroger is actively building new (replacement) stores, and expanding others.mburb1981 wrote: ↑April 10th, 2021, 11:32 am https://www.macombdaily.com/news/st-cla ... b7c64.html

Kroger quickly renovated about half the Farmer Jacks it acquired, whereas the other half weren't renovated for 5+ years. with one exception: Most Farmer Jacks had their bakery and delis in opposite sides of the store; the bakeries were kitty corner to the dairy, and the dairy's lacked walk-in coolers, so Kroger replaced bakeries with such, consolidating baked goods into the deli area (Kroger had a smaller selection). Thus, for 5+ years, Kroger operated stores in markets like Troy with full A&P decor, no full service meat counter -- but an updated dairy.
Many of the ex-Farmer Jacks still maintain many of Farmer Jack's furniture and fixtures. At the location nearest my brother, Kroger quickly renovated it post-acquisition, but left the remnants of BestBank (which closed with Farmer Jack) in the corner of the store, using it as a the basis for floral. The hulking customer service counter remained, even though Kroger left it closed most of the time. And A&P's old school produce fixtures remained. Sometime in late 2019 or in early 2020 the store was renovated again; the bank and customer service counters were removed, enabling Kroger to rebuild and expand the produce area (which was small compared to most stores). The store never received the updated shelving, so that's original to A&P.
