Hi, safeway has pulled the plug on the Route seven and forty unit in Bear De. This store was originaly built as a Thriftway, then sold to Genuardis, This store was unionized like the other two in Delaware and were converted to the Safeway Banner. Safeway allowed this store to simply fall apart. Dirty and dingy, competing with high volume Super g and high volume Acme, as well as their own unit only two miles away on route Forty in Glassgow. The final blow was the Food Lion opened only a half mile down the street.
Rumor has Shop Rite that was trying to build a unit on forty but was having problems with the state and county, has purchased the lease on this store and will renovate.
