Domino's closes all locations in Italy

In a move sure to make some of those "Really stupid corporate ideas" lists in the near future next to Taco Bell's ill-advised attempts at opening stores in Mexico, Domino's had entered Italy in 2015 through a franchising agreement with plans to open as many as 880 stores, but the last 13 stores (out of a total of 29) have now closed, having failed to make much impact. Bringing American style pizza to Italy sounds like a fool's errand in the first place but they hoped to find a niche in delivery services, one which was quickly wiped out when COVID hit and brought the expansion of third party delivery services so pretty much anyone could offer it. That said, much of the reaction on social media describes selling Domino's Pizza in Italy as being equivalent to trying to sell ice in the Arctic.
