pretty scathing review---I've not been to one of these, certainly looks like it's not as attractive as even Aldi 10 years ago

I posted a thread a while ago about my last visit to a DG Market asking if they had abandoned the format... this little store the author went to that is a converted regular Dollar General was clearly not well suited for this format. The execution is all too common for Dollar General (bad).

The store I visited that prompted my post asking if they were abandoning the format was in Live Oak, CA and it was purpose built as a DG Market quite a few years ago now. It is probably 25k square feet and the grocery items are on warehouse rack style shelving. The rest of the store is also more spacious and has longer aisles than a usual Dollar General. No self checkout. Structurally the building and layout work and the store if merchandised properly could be okay. I have also seen some DG Market units in converted Rite Aids that were small and quite horrible.
