AlixPartners does provide various services. They do provide services to try and improve profits and keep businesses going. But they are also a restructuring advisor and have worked with various now gone retailers. One of their services is https://www.alixpartners.com/services/t ... ructuring/ .

Bed Bath & Beyond hired AlixPartners in early 2023.

Tuesday Morning also hired AlixPartners in 2020.

My interpretation of this is that all things are on the table for the Lidl US operations. If the new CEO can turn things around more power to him. If not, he has access to his former employer to wind things down however that ends up happening.

AlixPartners is used very thoroughly these days by American retailers. The other big consulting firm is Accenture. The difference is that Accenture has moved firmly towards just doing technology consulting, leaving the retail operations consulting for others and AlixPartners has basically taken all of that business. My last company used AlixPartners for everything from engineering a new instock process to distribution center layout optimization.

The restructuring/bankruptcy work is relatively new for them and stemmed from merging with another firm. But restructuring/bankruptcy work is widely available and really a "dime a dozen" type industry. Ironically enough, it's very profitable work as long as you make sure that your firm doesn't get added to the bankruptcy later!
