Gen Z Snacking Habits

Gen Z apparently prefers snacks that make them feel emotionally better. They prefer chewy snacks because the act of chewing contributes to stress reduction. Fruity/chewy candy is popular.
Healthy snacks are not so popular because they don't make you feel emotionally better.
Brand name snacks are preferred over cheaper store brands because of social conformity. Gen Z wants to be seen eating the big brand names that their peers are eating. You don't want to be seen holding a can of Kroger store brand water. You want to be seen with an expensive bottle of Fiji water.

So both Costco and Sam's Club have rearranged their "snack" sections and pushed this product front and center. I'm not so sure about the comments that they have to have a brand name because they've got just as much Kirkland/Members Mark as anything else, and they all sell. Costco has really gone deep on these categories now as they had two full center stack aisles of snack bars now with a lot of other chewy snacks and chips nearby.

The Costcos I shop have had this kind of assortment for a long time, with the same limited selections of flavors.

There's definitely some newness there, they added a new peanut butter wafer bar that is pretty addicting a few months ago. Saw some new pumpkin spice bars people were filling their carts with. Snacks are definitely back after years of decline.
