Looks like Safeway NorCal is finally doing something about the stores that give customers trouble about honoring the scan guarantee.
I don't get the poster questioning if they can "threaten" employees with this. What is the big deal? Item scans wrong up to $5 customer gets 1 of that item free except liquor, fluid milk, tobacco... over $5 they get a gift card for $5... employees need to honor the guarantee. Period.

This is a chainwide policy. Not only CA. Based on the Reddit responses it appears a lot of employees don't understand the policy. Last time I tried to claim it I was told if they fix the price at the register before I pay, I don't get the free item. Free item is only if you go to customer service with your receipt after you pay. That obviously isn't the policy.
