Ukiah is a former Mervyns; basically redecorated but still just like a Mervyns.

Nope, on Google Street View it's always been a tiny Penney's. Mervyn's building became Kohls (like so many).
I figured JCPenney would not have added the catalog/salon door if they'd assumed a former Mervyn's.

Nothing surprising here, Macy's and Sears departed both of these long ago:

Shenango Valley is a dead mall whose owners want to redevelop the property as a multi-use town center. JCP has been in long litigation to prevent this and recently lost. It's the weakest mall in the Warren-Youngstown area and serves the weakest part of that struggling area.

Crystal Mall is a dying mall and serves an economically weak part of CT.

Strange, I thought sure that thing was a Mervyns. But definitely not... definitely the Kohls there was the Mervyns.

I wonder if the JCP was a Gottschalks..?

I'm having trouble finding an old list of Gottschalks.

Meanwhile, my local Stockton JCP has removed the Johnson era decor from the first floor and is in the process of re installing carpet.

The "shops" are in super rough shape in Reno. They have re-done some flooring but a lot still are cement. The "home" category looks good, maybe great even, sort of shocked.

The store looked a lot better with the "shop" configuration of the Johnson era. The only area with cohesive decor is the home department.
