HOT Portland Division Safeway - Albertsons ad

Post by SamSpade »

For a change of pace, the ad effective for March 20 - March 26, 2024 has a lot of decent offers.
Highlights
  • Fridays still remain a "Frenzy" here instead of $5 Friday like it was for years (even pre-ACI), but a 12 oz. bag of organic coffee at $4 is a very :!: low price.
  • Many items in the ad qualify for 4x Rewards Points and any day of the ad (which can result in further 'basket' savings, or several store-brand free items not just fuel discounts like the competitor's Friday offer)
  • A few "when you buy 3" or "when you buy 4" offers on chips/soda/crackers
  • Cage free eggs at $1.99 (figure you California shoppers are jealous?)
  • $5 off any basket $30 or more (this is normally $10 off 50 or more, offered once a month)
  • Pick any 4 eligible packaged proteins for $20 regardless of marked price
  • Weekly manufacturer coupon doubl'r (up to $0.50) continues

Meh. The cage free eggs mandate by the state of Oregon did nothing more than hurt poor people.

I noticed eggs at WinCo and Wal Mart around Reno dropped to 2.98 for Large Dozen in the past week or so.

Was in some NorCal Safeways last week- 5.49 dozen Lucerne Large Cage Free Eggs there. Save Mart has similar terrible pricing (including in Reno). In Reno Safeway has the same eggs from the same warehouse priced at 3.59.

Cage free egg mandates I think are in pretty much every western state now. Of course prices are way up but for some reason Northern California prices are still significantly above surrounding states/regions (like: SoCal) for some reason.

Safeway is changing the loyalty program soon, it will be based on points and no more conversion to "rewards." No more 100 points=1 reward. Instead your redemption will be based on your points for instance now 100 points=10 cents off gas (vs before 100 points=1 reward=redeem 1 reward for 10 cents off gas). Also it will do 100 points for a $1 off coupon automatically if you opt in to that feature. Also accumulation of points will be for a two month cycle so if you spend $50 this month and $50 next month you'll get 100 points and redeem for something unlike under the old program where that got you no redemption since you didn't hit 100 points in a single month which is a great thing in my opinion.
