Re: Bad concrete floor jobs at Walmart

When the Wal Mart near me lost its white tile floor a year or two ago, I actually was in the store one night when they were removing the floor from a big part of grocery. They had a machine and it just literally broke the floor and lifted it right up. The replacement cement floor in this store is a...

Re: Bad concrete floor jobs at Walmart

The concrete floors look bad period. Just look at the Fred Meyer of your choice in the Pacific Northwest for examples. Most of the remodels leave the floors looking much worse, exposing bad patch jobs, old tile marks, and areas where the floor was cut open for previous work. As for the chemicals, wa...

Re: Seattle’s Northgate Mall To Be Redeveloped

Looks like Nordstrom's building is going to be going away. However, Nordstrom has not announced that it is leaving Northgate. So maybe a new store will be built or it could be an opportunity for them to build a new Nordstrom Local store here. The article was in the Puget Sound Business Journal behi...

Re: Walgreens under fire for underage tobacco sales

Walgreens has a strict policy in place to ID people under a certain age (30 or 40). It must be too easy to bypass the prompt on the register. I am not sure if they have gone as far as Rite Aid who outright requires the ID to be scanned by the employee no matter how old the customer is (good way to ...

Re: Sears Fears: The Final Days of Sears & Kmart, 2019

Sears failed on many fronts. Merchandise mix was bad, pricing was bad, commissioned sales structure led to situations where customers were not being taken care of in their best interests, heavy pressure on selling extended warranties to customers and in some cases refusing sales if customers did no...

Re: Lord and Taylor's New Logo and Tag Line

For the record, I have never been to a Lord & Taylor store. But I will say that their original logo gave a bit of an upscale impression. I would assume the store is similar to maybe Nordstrom. In the days when department stores thrived, this wasn't necessarily a bad thing. The malls offered a bit of...

HouseMart Ace Hardware

Stopped in my local Ace Hardware store in Longview, WA the other day for something only to discover that the location is quietly closing down. They supposedly are closing by the end of May, and many shelves are already empty. However, there are no closing signs posted, and no advertisements that I h...

Re: Macy's announces new round of closings

Macy's has decided to close the Northgate store this year instead of next year, starting liquidation next month: https://komonews.com/news/local/macys-to-close-its-northgate-mall-store-a-year-early I wouldn't be surprised to see a few more closures and/or shrinking of store size. Especially in mall...

Re: Safeway (Canada) and Sobeys try dimming lights

Some stores have lights so bright that it gives you a headache. There were some supermarkets that were so bright you would think that they were Kmart stores. Years ago during the Enron energy crisis, stores turned out half of their lights in California. The stores were still bright including, Safew...

Re: Wendy's

Wendy's seems popular in my area, but only due to the fact the only other burger competition is Burger King. Some Wendy's have added self checkout using large touch screens that look like tablet computers. I have seen a row of 3 on a counter apart from the regular cash registers. They took cards bu...
