Re: Fry’s Electronics on Life Support

The store in Wilsonville, OR still seemed well stocked on my last visit, but you can tell the store is aging. One thing that struck me as odd were the light fixtures, some which had a mixture of old fluorescent and new LED bulbs in the same fixtures. Fry's is one of the few places left that still ha...

Re: Simon mall branding homogenization

Agree with the comments above about trying to force a parent brand on a chain of malls being an exercise in futility. Especially when they plaster the name on a higher-end property like UTC -- adding that Australian outback "Westfield" brings the UTC brand DOWN, not up. I guarantee you ZERO people ...

Re: Shun Fat (SF) Supermarket coming to Portland

I took a look at the article. From the pictures, it looks like they are trying to bring the Asian elements in while at the same time keeping mainstream items on hand. I think they may have realized that Fred Meyer left a void as a neighborhood grocer. A lot of Asian supermarkets seem to concentrate ...

Re: New Skippers location

Well, the Longview Skippers is closing after 6 years: https://tdn.com/news/local/skippers-restaurant-in-longview-closing/article_1f31e400-3fdb-59de-b891-c3602bf31e62.html#tracking-source=home-the-latest While not much changed regarding the appearance of the restaurant, the owners were heavily involv...

Re: Simon mall branding homogenization

They sold the Columbia Gorge Outlets a while back, and have two outlets malls in WA, as well as enclosed malls in Kennewick, Tacoma, and Seattle's Northgate Mall. Northgate has been talked about already, while Tacoma is undergoing changes. The Sears store is being demolished for new development. Not...

Re: Walmart observations

Stopped at a Walmart on East 4th Plain in Vancouver, WA today, which is one of the newest in the area as it is only a few years old now. Saw something interesting...the greeters were scanning ALL receipts when leaving the store with a handheld device. I have not seen the greeters doing this at any o...

Re: Target Dance Music

I was at a Target store that is undergoing the Next Gen Remodel and it sounded like I was in a dance club. The thumping dance music was almost as bad as Abercrombie & Fitch or its teenage cousin Hollister. If they start pumping cologne into the air, I will avoid this place like the plague. Target h...

Re: Sears Fears: The Final Days of Sears & Kmart, 2019

Another full-line Sears closing: http://westchester.news12.com/story/40599849/sears-location-in-cross-county-shopping-center-to-close This seems to be following the pattern of the last few years with a few individual closures sprinkled in between major closure lists. I do not have confidence that th...

Re: Fred Meyer attempts to curb shrink "a new way"

I noticed an interesting development at the Longview Fred Meyer yesterday, which just completed a major remodel earlier this year. They moved the entire cleaning supplies section to an area next to the cosmetics/HBA department, and moved the pet section to the back wall where the cleaning supplies w...

Re: Dollar Tree Raising Prices

It will all depend on how much higher. But the dollar store format is in many ways today's version of a 5 & 10 cent store. A lot of independent dollar type stores have already faded away. Dollar Tree is a chain that is inconsistent with store design and layout so it will be interesting to see how th...
