Re: Portland suburbs: Bales Markets struggling?

On a related note, there appears to be separate Thriftway chains for Oregon and Washington (with different logos), however, there doesn't appear to be a main site for the Oregon Thriftway stores (which I think are independent franchises) Is the Oregon Thriftway chain gradually being phased out? They...

Re: Walmart observations

This is shocking as Walmart has been eliminating tile on all previous remodels. Even Target has tried to eliminate tile in some of their new remodels. There was one exception where the concrete floor had too many cracks and Target had to use new tile instead. Walmart wants concrete floors as they d...

Re: Walmart observations

I visited the West Longview Walmart yesterday (the store that prompted the thread) and it is undergoing a remodel. The outside has been repainted and the inside has received new white paint on the walls. I also noticed it appears that they are replacing the floor tile by section, but keeping tile fl...

Re: Tabletop tablets in chain restaurants

I will admit that I do not eat dinner at chain restaurants very often and have just now for the first time encountered one of these at my local Red Lobster a few days ago. The tablet was not used for ordering, a waitress did that as usual, and they still had regular menus. I did see a few ads for va...

Re: Wendy's to serve breakfast in all locations in 2020

Wendy's has attempted breakfast a number of times over the years, but it seems like every time they stopped serving breakfast after a matter of months. In fact, the only place I have ever had it was at an airport location. I hope that they can pull this off, as I would like to see another option. If...

Remember that Oregon is one of only two states (the other being New Jersey) where self-serve gasoline is prohibited.
There are, however, some rural counties where self serve is permitted during certain hours of the day.

Re: Oregon AFL-CIO sponsors ballot initiative to severely restrict self checkouts

This only applies to "grocery stores?" I wonder if Wal Mart even qualifies... Something like this would have probably had a chance 10-15 years ago when self checkouts were newer and a lot more "trouble" to use. Many people were frustrated with self checkouts back then. But as time has gone on, thes...

Re: South Shore Mall, Aberdeen, WA

I think Regis and GNC were the only national chain stores left in that mall besides Sears. I am not sure if this would have a big impact with the mall having already lost what national chains it had.

This seems like a spot where Fred Meyer might do well though.

Things are getting interesting. The sale of Sears HQ may be pending:

Re: Is the end near at Sears?

Clemmons NC (which is on the closing list) yesterday. I hadn't been in this store in about ten years. My favorite is the "patient consultation area" in the pharmacy, which is closed on evenings weekends, of course. But hey, they're still hiring... My favorite pic is the one about transitioning the ...
