Re: Nordstrom: dying too?

Nordstrom's traditional department store business model is dying. While I have not purchased anything in a Nordstrom store in recent years, I have walked through their stores a few times and honestly didn't feel that they offered anything better than a Macy's in the same malls. Perhaps their service...

Re: Franchisees opposed to improved McDonald's operations?

They work for McDonald's Corporation in a profit sharing system. McDonald's is the boss. They are not. Period. If I was McDonald's corporate I would have people on planes unannounced heading to every store opposed to this program with legal queued up ready to revoke the franchise and finance ready ...

Re: Sizzler

So...I finally went to the Longview Sizzler to eat yesterday. I ordered from the main menu a steak and shrimp meal. It was about average, not excellent, but certainly not bad. Price was about average. But....as somebody who has eaten at this location on and off for 25+ years, I can say that I don't ...

Re: Skippers Seafood and Chowder sold!

I can't think of a single chain that has a dominant presence these days. There are Ivar's locations as you get up towards Seattle, and a handful of scattered Long John Silvers, scattered enough that I can't think of the locations closest to me. I think the opportunity is there...when operated proper...

There's a new Cascade Farm store opening in Hood River soon
I wonder if this is a new build or taking over an existing store. Bi-Mart doesn't appear to have a store in Hood River.

Re: Bi-Mart / Walgreen's

I am kinda curious if the closure of pharmacies has hurt the sales overall at any Bi-Mart locations. The ones I go to in Vancouver, WA still seem as busy as before, but I have noticed that they seem to be really ramping up on running TV ads lately, where in the past they tended to only advertise hea...

Re: Pep Boys & Advance Auto

Auto Value is a buying group. Baxter Auto Parts was affiliated with them for many years, but is now affiliated with Advance/Carquest. I don't think Auto Value was part of Advance/Carquest, as Baxter has removed that signage (but curiously is not moving fast to put up the Carquest signage)

Re: Walgreens pushing credit cards

That Synchrony group is apparently pretty big - they do cards around here (NY) for a local chain of tire and muffler type shops. Not sure exactly what they offer, but I suspect it may be open to some that would not as easily qualify for the major company cards, as that way they still have an option...

Re: Gas Stations Dropping Brand Names

I think that the majority have come to the realization that 'gas is gas'. Especially with high priced these days, I don't think that many have loyalty to a particular brand anymore, they just fill up wherever is either cheaper/most convenient for them. Beyond what I see with Chevron on the west coa...

Re: Rite Aid closing at least 63 stores

It appears the only 24 hour pharmacy in the entire metro Portland is a Walgreens in Beaverton. Walgreens used to heavily promote that the store at 1905 SE 164th Ave. in Vancouver, WA was a 24 hour store. Looking at the locator today says "Store & Photo: Closed. Pharmacy: Open until 10PM.&q...
