Re: Walmart observations

Walmart seems to be divesting itself of a lot of its international operations. I assume that this is to make up for the money pit that ramping up its e-commerce operations created. Walmart seems to be reducing its stake and/or exiting from the UK, Argentina, and Japan. https://www.supermarketnews.co...

Re: Dead/Dying Malls in Your Area and Predictions

In the Phoenix area: Dead: MetroCenter: Closed except for Harkins Theatres, Dillard's Clearance Center, and Walmart (no concrete redevelopment plans on the horizon) (3.5 vacant anchor spots) Fiesta Mall: Fully closed and vacant (supposedly being converted to medical offices). Paradise Valley Mall: D...

Re: Capacity Limits... in the winter

Let's just be honest about this and I know I'm outside the lane here but so be it. Places like restaurants, ski resorts and even small shops and such should NOT even be open in some areas right now and the govt. on the national level really needs to step in again and help get these businesses and t...

Re: Walmart+

I read something elsewhere about a customer who had his Walmart+ delivery made by DoorDash. I guess I'm a little confused about how this all works -- are they contracting with local delivery services for this purpose? I know they have a new partnership with Instacart, but maybe Instacart is actuall...

Re: Dillards posts Q3 profit- same store sales down 24%- closing 1 Phoenix store

Pretty much confirmation that the Dillard's closure is linked to mall redevelopment. https://www.abc15.com/news/region-northeast-valley/paradise-valley/redevelopment-of-paradise-valley-mall-inches-closer-to-reality Also it seems that they may be trying to get Macy's, JCPenney, and/or Costco out as w...

Re: Dillards posts Q3 profit- same store sales down 24%- closing 1 Phoenix store

https://www.arkansasbusiness.com/article/133662/dillards-3q-profit-improves-but-on-track-for-fiscal-loss So I guess the Phoenix closure is not the clearance store- it is at Paradise Valley Mall. Huh... that kind of leaves a hole in Dillards Phoenix area presence, especially when you figure the Clea...

https://www.abc15.com/news/smart-shopper/winco-fry-s-or-walmart-which-grocery-chain-has-the-lowest-prices- ABC15 in Phoenix recently compared Winco, Walmart, Fry's, and Safeway with a 15-item checklist. The cheapest was Winco, the most expensive was Safeway, with Walmart and Fry's falling in betwee...

Re: Halloween Sell Through

The impression I get is with more and more people stuck at home people are spending more on Halloween for their own families and close social circles than they otherwise would. This includes decorations (my neighborhood has more decorations than it ever has) as well as candy and costumes. There is a...

Re: Amazon Fresh Irvine Now Open

It may be a game changer if they build 2,000 of them in the next few years. The press keeps getting it wrong regarding Amazon and grocery. A whole lot of hype every time they open one new concept store somewhere that it is the end for the conventional grocers, but few new stores seem to ever materi...

Re: Lifting of Coronavirus restrictions on restaurants

In S. Cali many restaurants have converted their parking lots to outdoor dining. Many cities have repurposed street parking to dining "parks". Congested areas like NYC have not faired to well with trying to repurpose space. Repurposed street parking? That seems like a very bad idea especially if it...
