Re: Albertsons vs. Kroger comp spreads

This is very interesting. Over the past couple years, Kroger's performance has basically leveled off while Albertsons has gotten better and better. Kroger did way better in the lousy economy a decade ago than they are doing today. I find that ironic. It seems Kroger in its efforts to centralize mor...

Re: Ralphs Encino Closing Jan 31

I'm curious if the new tenant could be Amazon's new grocery concept.

I know that they were looking at getting a number of locations under contract throughout the LA area.

Re: Kroger sells Turkey Hill brand

Update. As of December 2019 Albertsons and Safeway stores in the Phoenix area now have Turkey Hill ice cream products prominently displayed on their end caps. Albertsons in NM and also in TX used to have Turkey Hill Tea many years ago. I never saw it at any Safeway operation outside Eastern Divisio...

Re: Macy’s 2020

It seems like every year, Macy's does this annual restructuring. Store closures. Close some other corporate facility and chop off hundreds of jobs. Overall impact is always thousands of jobs when you tally it up across the closing stores and whatever corporate facility they decide to close. Kind of...

Re: Macy’s 2020

I could see Paradise Valley in Phoenix closing. Despite its proximity to the town of Paradise Valley (the mall is in Phoenix proper a few miles north) it is pretty downscale. The mall is in very sad shape with lots of vacant storefronts and mom-and-pop stores. The Macy's is downright depressing. It...

Re: Smart & Final Extra

I notice lately they run 10% off coupons in their ad. That is atypical for a supposed "everyday low price" format. I have never been impressed with the Extra format. Quality is not the same as when Smart & Final was catering to businesses/restaurants, as you point out, way downhill across the board...

Re: J.C. Penney hires former Shopko executive to aid turnaround

Both JCP and Macy's appear to be having a pretty miserable holiday season here in Nevada. I think in general the retailers are not doing well this year. The Wal Mart near me, the Christmas seasonal set looks about like it did a month ago... I cannot believe how much they have... as in, not much stu...
