Re: Is the end near at Sears?

Clemmons NC (which is on the closing list) yesterday. I hadn't been in this store in about ten years. My favorite is the "patient consultation area" in the pharmacy, which is closed on evenings weekends, of course. But hey, they're still hiring... My favorite pic is the one about transitioning the ...

Re: Walmart closes St. Paul (MN) store on University Ave.

Walmart seems to have trouble with some "inner city" locations that they opened in the mid 2000s. Some of these locations like one in Oakland and Baldwin Hills in California and one in the Cleveland area closed in 2016, their location in Sacramento which closed last year also seems to fit this same ...

Re: Kroger to build new warehouse in South Dallas

Target and Walmart seem to be trying to use its store base to double as warehouses. Why is Kroger spending a ton of money on an online only warehouse when grocery delivery isn't as large as everyone seems to be making it out to be? Can these be repurposed into traditional warehouses if this delivery...

Re: Kroger to outsource Drug Dept. to Walgreens in Knoxville, TN Market

There are rumors that Kroger may make a deal with Walgreens similar to Target's deal with CVS. Essentially sell the Pharmacy operations to Walgreens. However that still doesn't explain Walgreens HBA products in Kroger stores.

Re: Fred Meyer shifting ad start day to Wednesday (was Sunday)

Since this change, I never receive Fred Meyer circulars in the (direct) mail. Still seeing QFC every week, though. Out of curiosity, now that we're in "back to school" season, Fred Meyer still seems to be focused on food and "More Ways to Save. Does this 'more ways to save' campaign really resonate...

Re: Walmart observations

What's the deal with the large number of the Walmart stores (Neighborhood Markets and Division 1) that close at 10pm in California? Is this due to local ordinances or simply due to labor costs? 10 pm seems a bit early and most Target stores are open until at least 11 or midnight. It seems that in mo...

Re: Stater Bros. President Retiring. Former Albertsons Portland Division President to Replace

I am surprised that an Albertsons person was chosen. Albertsons is the last company I would look for expert guidance. Stater Brothers could go down hill quite fast. Or perhaps, this is a prelude to a takeover by Albertsons. Albertsons may have planned this all along. Take over profitable small chai...

New Amazon Grocery Chain

More news outlets are reporting on an Amazon grocery store chain that will have fresh departments accessible to consumers and basically center store in a large "backroom" where customers will make center store selections on an app and then these items will be brought to consumers at checkout (simila...

Re: Kroger: Fee for cash back with PIN Debit at some locations

One of the chains here (Price Chopper/Market 32 - NY based) has charged a fee for quite some time - I was able to find a comment from 2010, and it may be even further back than that. Interesting, so this is perhaps a more common practice than I thought. I guess I use Debit so rarely (WinCo...) and ...

Re: Dillards

Historically, Dillard's has stuck around in dying malls. If Dillard's was the only anchor, it would stick around despite the mall's clear failure (see: Harding Mall) but if it wasn't, it was usually the second to go (based on observations, the dead mall pattern in the late 2000s was JCPenney first,...
