Re: Coronavirus Fears and Empty Supermarkets

I haven't noticed Value Corner milk at any of the Arizona Safeway stores but Safeway's milk prices are generally at the high end (but not ridiculously high) within the market rate. I believe the lowest priced milk is at Target / WinCo at approximately $1.80/gallon (which Fry's occasionally sells at ...

Re: Wal Mart to limit number of shoppers

Target is also implementing this same policy and Costco has had it at least since Wednesday.

Re: Pay increases in grocery stores as a result of Coronavirus

After much pressure Kroger is also doing the $2/hr pay increase through April. So Kroger employees actually have had it a lot better than any other retailer in this mess. First, they were allowed unlimited overtime if they wanted it. Then they got a $25 gift card (complained...). Then they got the ...

Re: Macy’s 2020

Macy's may be done. Furlough is the new politically correct word for layoff as I doubt a large percentage of these workers will be brought back unless the virus ends very shortly.

Target says same stores sales up 20% and that they’re cutting capital expenditures. https://www.supermarketnews.com/retail-financial/target-scales-back-store-remodels-openings-due-covid-19?NL=SN-02&Issue=SN-02_20200326_SN-02_692&sfvc4enews=42&cl=article_1_b&utm_rid=CPG06000001161301&utm_campaign=37...

Re: Coronavirus Fears and Empty Supermarkets

Sam's Club seems to be doing very poorly with in stock items. I visited the one near my house and while the store seemed to be full of fresh items (such as bakery goods, rotisserie chickens, pre-made meals, fruit, vegetables) as well as bottled water and milk other items were out of stock including ...

Re: Walmart observations

It appears Walmart is quietly announcing a round of store closures. So far I've seen news reports on the following stores.

Lumberton, NC (Neighborhood Market)
Wadesboro, NC
Ypsilanti, MI

All three are expected to close by April 3.

Re: Walmart observations

Despite the fact that the local Walmart has pulled annoying things like receipt checks in the past, I walked out of my last Walmart run empty-handed because they have replaced Georgia Pacific printer paper and Avery plastic sleeves with their own house brand. I ended up finding the brand of plastic...

Re: Coronavirus Fears and Empty Supermarkets

At Sam's Club this afternoon (in Phoenix) the store was almost fully out of toilet paper, facial tissue, and paper towels. There was plenty of bottled water, however.

The HBA aisles and cleaning supplies aisles seemed fully stocked.
