Re: Metrocenter Mall in Phoenix to close

It lost its ice rink (one of the defining features of the mall) back in the early 1990s and most of the anchors have also left. I don't even think Walmart connects to the mall, and it certainly doesn't connect to the upper level if it did. The Walmart was built on the site of the former Macy's stor...

Re: Capitol Hill Trader Joe’s indefinitely Closed

What about the QFC and Bartell a couple blocks away? That QFC stopped offering public restrooms due to issues that were taking place. Literally walled off the hallway. I think this neighborhood has been struggling for the past few with increased crime and drug usage among those around it (huge slid...

Re: JC Penney Files For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection

Walmart is contemplating closing stores right now. They are being hit hard by looters practically every night this week. This is so ridiculous, that the store gets looted and then restocked the next day. Then the store is looted again, and then restocked the next day. Target is also fearful. They a...

Re: JC Penney Files For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection

Looking at the list for Arizona they are closing a small town location in Cottonwood and 2 "inner ring" locations in Phoenix and Tucson. The Phoenix store's demise is probably tied to the demise of the Costco in the same shopping center (one of the few Costcos to close without a new location nearby...

Re: JC Penney Files For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection

It seems like every failing company floats rumors that Amazon is looking into buying it. A few weeks ago it was floated that Amazon was looking into buying AMC Theatres. Amazon has also been floated around as a buyer of Albertsons and Safeway in the past.

Re: JC Penney Files For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection

I am not sorry to see Kmart go. I have mixed feelings about Sears. They should be buried along with Lampert. I am sorry to see JCP go. My Mom was a buyer back in their better days but there were signs even back then that perhaps was a warning. Their executives started to behave in arrogant ways tha...

JC Penney Files For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection

I wish them the best but it doesn't look good. I'd imagine most of their larger stores in dying malls won't be around much longer. Re: Lord and Taylor sold for $100m to clothing rental company

Yeah, Lord & Taylor's problems go back to May's acquisition of ADS. May has always been a heavily promotional lower middle brow operation, although they had jettisoned the bargain basements and trading stamps by then, they were heavily into weekend "sales". Rather than leaving L&T alone, they expan...

Re: AMC Theaters expected to file for bankruptcy

AMC Theaters and Cineworld (Regal) are now refusing to play any Universal Studios movies after Universal publicly stated that they would release movies to theaters and on demand concurrently. Honestly, I think the video on demand route is probably the future of movie releases and similar to the Krog...
