Re: 🛒 Kroger-Albertsons Merger: National Impact
It's hard for me to see how Albertsons and Kroger thought this new deal would entice the FTC any better. I know someone said maybe it was simply to get the states that were suing off their backs, but the FTC was very clear that C&S is simply a questionable buyer, and it's going to take actual l...

Re: 🛒 Kroger-Albertsons Merger: National Impact
I wonder if they're making changes to the store banner mix to make it easier for C&S? So for example in California make it mostly Albertsons branded stores that go to C&S if they were choosing between unloading a Ralphs or a Vons or an Albertsons in a particular neighborhood? Obviously they...

Re: Walmart announces major new store opening and remodel initiative
Looks like one of the new Walmart stores is going to be a 171,000 square foot supercenter in Mesa, AZ.

Re: Costco Door Scanning Rolling Out
Perhaps Costco should have express lanes with a 10 item limit and use a cash register without the bulky conveyor belt. This would fit more registers and eliminate the issue with the self checkout not being able to handle more than 5 items. Costco was founded with no conveyor belts, and switched to ...

Re: Macys Closing Stores by 2026
Michigan is sensible as well--leaving in Detroit Southland/Briarwood/Twelve Oaks/Somerset/Oakland. Lakeside/Partridge Creek is the only questionable hole left---Lakeside is already slated for a (senior) housing project (somewhat similar to Northland just 7 years later)...Partridge Creek which is ab...

Re: Macys Closing Stores by 2026
I think Dillards has enough clearance centers in AZ right now with the 2 they currently have. They need one to close, then they can convert that one. They let Desert Sky stay a full service store way longer than I ever thought they would but finally converted that. But I'm not clear what their exit...

Re: Macys Closing Stores by 2026
The Arizona location at Superstition Springs Center is not a surprise. That mall and location was doomed ever since they opened SanTan Village 8 miles (and about a 15 minute drive) away and closer to more affluent shoppers. That mall is the newer "twin" to the since demolished Paradise Va...

District of Oregon judge to hear FTC challenge to Kroger/Albertsons in August: https://www.reuters.com/markets/deals/us-judge-hear-ftc-challenge-kroger-albertsons-deal-aug-26-2024-03-11/ This can't be good for the prospects of the merger. August will be in the middle of election season and I can't ...

Re: Walmart 2023 Closings
The Towson, MD Walmart is closing on April 5. https://foxbaltimore.com/news/local/walmart-closing-towson-location-on-april-5-due-to-underperformance This is another "mall" Walmart (the store is a former Montgomery Ward) that was 2 levels. There is also a Target in the same mall which is a ...
