Re: Could Kroger be preparing for a Florida move-in?

I can tell you, having worked for Publix, they do not like to take over stores (obviously they do and eventually rebuild). Publix has acquired stores from competitors (Albertson's and Bi-Lo in recent memory), but have not acquired entire chains. Specific stores that are performing well and/or in go...

Re: Could Kroger be preparing for a Florida move-in?

I've researched and it appears no 24 hour stores is the rule at Publix. Not sure why I was confused regarding Atlanta. Kroger definitely has 24 hour stores in Atlanta but you won't find a 24 hour Fred Meyer in OR/WA (but QFC is usually 24 hours). There is Gooding's in Orlando that is 24 hours. One ...

Re: Could Kroger be preparing for a Florida move-in?

Low cost areas pertaining to land, construction, etc. and talent (employees). I'm not sure if they bought stores in Atlanta as the genesis of entering the market (I do not remember, lol). It is unusual for Publix to be 24 hours (does anyone know if this is true outside of Florida?). BTW............m...

Re: $2 Million Albertsons remodel complete in WY

King Soopers has an historical and well earned customer loyalty. The majority of their stores have always been very high volume (above industry standards for generalist grocers). They have always built stores slightly bigger than their competitors' average. This has been true when they were independ...

Re: Could Kroger be preparing for a Florida move-in?

I can tell you, having worked for Publix, they do not like to take over stores (obviously they do and eventually rebuild). They do not care for other retailer designs and they rarely even hire employees from other retailers (unless it is a brand new region and they are unable to import enough employ...

Re: Wal Mart expanding grocery selection

Both the Wild Oats name and Fresh & Easy stores were owned by Yupcaipa but did they ever merge the two companies? As far as I know they remained separate legal entities. From a May 26th, 2015 press release: About Fresh & Easy Since transitioning to new ownership in November 2013, Fresh &...

Re: Could Kroger be preparing for a Florida move-in?

I understand Harris Teeter previously had some stores in Jacksonville and pulled out. So that calls into question if that would be a logical expansion move to expand that brand into FL. The Marketplace format would definitely bring something to the market that doesn't currently exist there, however...

Re: The splitting of Kroger Southwest

Is Kroger presently in Amarillo, Austin, Brownsville, Corpus Christi, El Paso, Laredo, Lubbock, and San Antonio? No, it is not, and it does not have any stores in Oklahoma. Expansion into Oklahoma, northwestern, southern and western Texas is possible and doable. It is either organic expansion throu...

Re: Wal Mart expanding grocery selection

Most, if not all, of the perishable line of Wild Oats was exclusively at Fresh & Easy. The majority of the dry goods line was contracted exclusively to Walmart nationwide (Fresh & Easy had a few dry goods SKUs when it did not have their private label version). There was talk (after Walmarts ...
