Re: Portland's "scary" Safeway being updated

Here are some photos: Endcap example New produce, shows the bridge photos Service seafood Polished concrete in, all floor tiles and faux wood gone. They also appear to have reduced some of the 'de...

Re: Walmart gunning for more Portland, Ore. marketshare

Lots of little red rollback tags in grocery with large hanging signs that show that it's a Portland-area rollback. Similar to this photo from April 2018 but in grocery department. That Woodburn store is pretty sweet. Like Centralia, Wash. they kept the drop ceiling from the original store, then buil...

Re: Oregon and SW Washington UFCW Union May Strike

Good point. Large businesses must pay $15/hour in Seattle city limits. Statewide at $12/hour, up to $13.50 next year. Oregon has a somewhat odd system that covers the Portland area, "urbanized counties" and rural Oregon. Portland: $12.50 / $13.25 / $14 / $14.75 In the period the union is negotiating...

Re: Oregon and SW Washington UFCW Union May Strike

So, obviously all employer benefits packages may differ, and (arguably) Portland market is less expensive than Seattle, but here is what HMart is offering to employees for their new downtown Seattle store that will be opening later this month. $16-$18/hour Typical employer benefits after 3 months al...

Re: Tabletop tablets in chain restaurants

These were being rolled out in 2015 or so to fast casual chain Red Robin https://www.nrn.com/technology/red-robin-roll-out-tabletop-tablets-systemwide Later articles at the corporate Ziosk site appear to be that the kiosks can accept all kinds of cards (swipe, chip, Samsung pay). The thought was tha...

Re: Bristol Farms, Metropolitan Market & Lazy Acres Acquired!

Alpha, that is not true of newer 99 Ranch locations. There's an entire video of a woman from Epicurious eating at the NJ 99 Ranch. The one in Beaverton, Ore. is virtually identical, although a bit smaller. I'm not really sure how this Korean company plays into running these three grocery brands, but...

Re: Oregon AFL-CIO sponsors ballot initiative to severely restrict self checkouts

My native Oregonian friend was super excited about this idea when I told him about it. He mentioned all the old tired tropes about the self checkout. I was surprised. Cognitive bias note: His father has worked for Fred Meyer since he was 16 but is not in cashiering/front end (and yes, is still in a ...
