Re: Oregon and SW Washington UFCW Union May Strike

You know, I have been in retail grocery for about 25 years from Florida to Colorado to California and I have heard and studied all the theories and excuses about store levels wages and union vs non union. I have also been a successful small business owner twice. I apologize in advance and hope no o...

Re: Nordstrom Closing Downtown Anchorage Location

Dillard’s thrives by being the fashion store in smaller cities that Macy’s won’t go into (cities under 100k in population). And the Dillard family still owns a large share of the company. The definition of "fashion" in many of Dillard's markets is much different than the definition of "fashion" in ...

Re: McDonald's franchisees want a better chicken sandwich

McDonald's is really barking up the wrong tree here, customers don't really care if every restaurant is identical (as McDonald's has been updating them with a very rapid pace in the last decade), they want restaurants with competent execution. If McDonald's could institute a program that ensures re...

Re: McDonald's franchisees want a better chicken sandwich

McDonalds needs to improve the operations of its locations. They are losing customers because their execution is not consistent. Lukewarm food and undercooked fries are common. Very inconsistent execution. They are also losing customers because their prices are too high (some franchisees are much m...

Re: 7-Eleven to buy Stripes

Apparently 7-11 is losing its largest franchiser https://www.cspdailynews.com/company-news/delek-us-parting-ways-7-eleven This means 7-11 will disappear in NM and W Texas. I wonder if Circle K and Burger King (BK)will have problems with the DK name? The DK logo looks pretty distinct... Those 7-11s ...

Re: Kroger and Employee Uniforms

It probably also has something to do with general labor shortages. A lot of the major retailers are having trouble finding and keeping employees, so relaxing dress codes is probably preferable to operating short-staffed. Any business with a high turnover that isn't the nature of the business itself...

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/07/10/mcdonalds-us-franchisees-ask-for-a-chicken-sandwich-to-compete-with-chick-fil-a.html The National Owners Association, a group of McDonald's franchise owners, is asking McDonald's to add a Southern-style chicken sandwich to the menu to compete with Chick-Fil-A. They p...

Re: Oregon and SW Washington UFCW Union May Strike

Any idea if pay, benefits, or working conditions are any better in those unionized states? I honestly don't know. The Teamster's argument is that the non-unionized workers benefit from the contracts negotiated by the Teamsters because the company has to increase their pay to keep those employees fr...

Re: The present and future of Randalls

Generally speaking, the fact that they are spending any money on remodels makes it appear as if they want to keep some of these stores open. Are they adding self checkout in? Then again, there was Florida... There comes a point where you get store count down so low, with a few stores that for whate...

Re: Target Self Serve Snack Bar

Target was pretty consistent in offering food service in most, if not all, of their stores. It's interesting how they have done an "about face" recently. But look at other discounters....Walmart has mostly phased out their "Radio Grill" in favor of McDonalds, Subway, etc. (And in some cases has rem...
