Re: A&P To sell half it stores

I don't believe anybody has bought any of the intellectual properly, have they? I think there are a couple in progress but not finalized (or at least not announced as such). - Key Foods was going for the Food Emporium brand (since they are fairly NYC centric, as was that brand). - I believe a coupl...

Re: Haggen to close, liquidate 100 more stores

This bit of information is very interesting about the whole Albertsons/Haggen interaction. This tends to support the theory that Haggen really wanted to grow and that Albertsons actually wasn't deliberately playing Haggen for a sucker. With the Haggen stores now up for grabs, it reveals an uglier tr...

[CONFIRMED] Albertsons FL converting to Safeway

According to Albertsons Florida Blog , an "anonymous tipster" claimed that for whatever reason, renovations on the Florida Albertsons were halted and began to convert to Safeway stores instead, complete with a "Safeway look and feel", with the stores converting by January 1, 2016...

The Dallas Problem (Three Albertsons banners)

I wanted to split this off from another topic because I felt that it's still an interesting topic to discuss. What Albertsons intends to do with the Safeway names is another issue entirely When Albertsons took over ASC, they truly believed that one name was the way to run the company. They only got ...

What Albertsons intends to do with the Safeway names is another issue entirely When Albertsons took over ASC, they truly believed that one name was the way to run the company. They only got through Lucky, and the backlash was permanent. I don't believe they will try that again. Additionally, this i...

Re: Shaw's and Star Market

Ultimately, I believe that in areas where there are both Albertsons and Safeway (or Pavilions, Randall's, Tom Thumb, or Vons) bannered stores the ex-Safeway brand will be the more "upmarket" brand and the Albertsons will be the "standard" banner(if they intend to run multiple ba...

Re: Bashas vs. Walmart Neighborhood Market (Peoria, AZ)

That little deli looks pretty pathetic but the store looks alright even though I'm not a big fan of yellow walls. The yellow walls are standard to Walmart Supercenter, I think. When my local Walmart expanded in 2010, the whole grocery side had yellow walls stretching up to the warehouse-style ceili...

Shaw's and Star Market

In another post I made some comment about "who would operate two almost-identical brands", when I realized Albertsons does have that going on with Shaw's and Star Market. Apparently, someone down the line had made a decision to start converting Star stores to Shaw's, but in recent years th...

Re: A&P To sell half it stores

That is sad. I was hoping for an independent to buy a few of the stores and carry on a name (Grand Union, AppleTree for past examples), but I guess not.

All this makes me wonder why A&P never sold out when they could.

Re: Haggen to close, liquidate 100 more stores

First, I did not realize that Albertsons had already opened ACME in the former A&P stores yet! So I am guessing that all they did was plaster ACME over any signage that said A&P or Pathmark. Maybe that is what Haggen should have done in converting their stores? As for the Haggen decor, it r...
