Re: First New JCPenney In 8 Years Opens
This does not look like they did much of anything besides hang JCPenney signage, make checkout corrals, and paint the walls. Maybe the light bulbs were replaced with LED and a handful of new recessed spotlights added but the rest looks like L+T to me. Not even sure if the carpet was replaced. The b...

Re: 99 CENT ONLY closing
Again I'm saying that however scummy private equity can be, they do not pull the plug on an entire chain like that unless there is something else at play that isn't well-known. I don't think you can say "this is just another private equity looting!" when an unprecedented total liquidation ...

Re: 99 CENT ONLY closing
Problem is the bankruptcy filing doesn't support the narrative. Declining performance is not the same as a liquidity crisis. Do I think the stores had problems? You bet. But they were easily corrected, close all non CA stores and wipe their leases with a Ch 11. They didn't lease back much. I am sor...

Re: 99 CENT ONLY closing
To make it official, the company filed bankruptcy only yesterday as a "Chapter 11 Liquidation" which makes little sense until you read more into it. Furthermore, the ten largest creditors combined were only owed $35M. They were not broke at all. This is a private equity pillaging, not a f...

Re: First New JCPenney In 8 Years Opens
This video suggests the flooring from Lord & Taylor was reused but JCPenney seems to have spiffed up the lighting.

Re: 🛒 Kroger-Albertsons Merger: National Impact
Who compiled the list? It was the LECs (Local Exchange Carriers)for the phone companies. Remember the Safeway SoCal division, at the end, included SanDiego, Las Vegas, and the entire central valley and coast of California. If you are suggesting the list I provided is wrong I have the initial list f...

Re: 🛒 Kroger-Albertsons Merger: National Impact
Just my opinion, but judging from history, my opinion of this merger has changed 180 degrees. I think the merger should be allowed to go through with the amount of divestitures Kroger/Albertsons currently want. C&S may not fail as bad as the Haagan debacle, but it will fail. The simple answer i...
