Re: Kroger surpasses H-E-B and Walmart for #1 market share in Houston
This is not unlike how Wegmans does things where they heavily push private label, typically at strong prices, and have few national brand options. The nice things I have heard about Wegmans revolves around their perishables, not the center store. H-E-B's perishables are better than Kroger's I think...

Re: Kroger surpasses H-E-B and Walmart for #1 market share in Houston
I have to back pesudo3d up on this. The local rags have already paraded around this data and will likely have some trickle-down influence. Target has also built some large stores like Katy and New Caney, which have been lauded as being "huge" when, in reality, they're smaller than our exi...

Re: Kroger surpasses H-E-B and Walmart for #1 market share in Houston
This article just multiplies the average for the company by the store count, but we do know Target has invested a ton in growing the Houston market and surrounding suburbs with SuperTarget locations dominating the store count. So again skewed results. Huh? In the past ten years, Target has built ju...

Re: Barnes and Noble new stores
I just learned this week that Barnes and Noble is planning on opening a store in Kimball Junction (Park City), Utah. I think this is really cool since I am a fan of Utah and love to visit Utah. But I am curious about retail data that demonstrates Park City's ability to support stores that usually r...

Re: Kroger surpasses H-E-B and Walmart for #1 market share in Houston
This seems like a large swing. Kroger has some Marketplace units scattered around Houston... they need more to compete with HEB. Those are the only of their stores that are at a level to properly compete with most HEBs. I didn't really get the feeling Kroger was "going for the sales" aggr...

Kroger surpasses H-E-B and Walmart for #1 market share in Houston
https://www.axios.com/local/houston/2024/04/24/kroger-heb-market-share https://archive.ph/6d7YV Admittedly, this is only by 0.1% but H-E-B has expanded enormously in Houston over the last past 15 years while Kroger has slacked off on building stores in the last ten (I could probably count the number...

Re: Red Lobster Considering Bankruptcy Filing
Chili's and Fridays have been closing stores for years and just announced a new round of closings. Applebee's continues to close stores and seems destined to become a mostly small market operation, at best. Denny's has had several rounds of closures---I think they benefited, over time, by the decli...

Re: 99 CENT ONLY closing
Hi folks, I'm a long-time listener and a first-time caller. GOB Sales in Texas have essentially matched out-of-state operations. Our stores are now advertising that they're in their final seven days, and I've been referred to next Monday for fixture sales. Still, no WARN notice has been posted, but...

Re: 🛒 Kroger-Albertsons Merger: National Impact
Reuters says C&S is buying 166 more stores, along with the Haggen banner, and the Signature and O Organics brands: https://www.reuters.com/markets/deals/kroger-albertsons-amend-asset-sale-agreement-with-cs-wholesale-2024-04-22/ My gut reaction is that this isn’t going to satisfy the question th...
