Re: Winco Operations

When did California ever have Cub Foods? I thought that the last of the non-Minnesota stores closed around 2007.

Re: Macy's Neighborhood Store Watch

Macy's is largely undoing Terry Lundgren's handiwork. Legacy Macy's did not operate in second-tier malls and in second-tier markets. IMO, converting all the nameplates to Macy's diluted their brand and attempting to homogenize all of the stores simply alienated shoppers. That said, three stores I k...

Re: Short staffed restaurants

What we are seeing is a wage shortage. The wages are too low to attract workers. There are plenty of people who are able to work, but the wages are so low that they choose other higher paying jobs. In the past, low wage workers consisted of college students. Now they can work at an Amazon warehouse...

Re: Subway...what a joke

I worked at a Subway about five or so years ago, and most of the "new items" we either had as an option. Mozzarella was used for their "pizzas" (and was an ingredient on my free employee sandwich, which was toasted with pepperoni and other vegetables for a delicious sandwich that...

Re: What exactly happened with Kroger?

Walmart's business has been stagnant since the early 2000s and grocery helped them mostly in the short-run. They've either saturated markets or face high costs for entry (more expensive real estate, insurance, etc. and less willingness to subsidize them). Their model has been based on volume and lo...

Re: What exactly happened with Kroger?

Walmart has also been closing stores left and right without replacement nationwide. It's simply the byproduct of both companies shift to digital. I'd imagine over the next 10 - 15 years we'll easily see Kroger close 500 stores and Walmart close 1500 stores if digital takes off like projected and/or...

Re: What exactly happened with Kroger?

More good news for the top at Kroger: https://twitter.com/DanPriceSeattle/status/1416124476786364425 Wonder why they're still hung up on the pay increases in California as opposed to stores closing left and right without replacement across nearly every division. Moreso, what will become of this? Is...

Re: Theft, Shoplifting, etc.

Someone was mentioning returning to a catalog style store to reduce shoplifting. What do you think? What about outside restrooms to stop theft? I don't live in an area with a shoplifting epidemic like San Francisco, but one of the reasons catalog showrooms worked because (especially for larger item...

Re: Food 4 Less - Arkansas

I made a Groceteria thread a while back that asks some questions about how Fleming got involved in F4L (and what exactly the licensee terms was, seems Fleming got a big territory...and why didn't Woodland's store get re-absorbed). It also answers a few questions from this thread--Falley's Inc. was a...
