Re: Food Lion To Buy 62 Bi-Lo / Harvey's Stores From Southeastern Grocers

Although only technically, as Food Lion is part of the Delhaize arm (they and Ahold sort of joined together, but only partially, not a complete merger). I wonder if Ahold Delhaize USA has ways to go to get stores (Food Lion, Hannaford, Giant (Landover, Maryland), Giant (Carlisle, Pennsylvania), Sto...

Re: Food Lion To Buy 62 Bi-Lo / Harvey's Stores From Southeastern Grocers

I am wonder who will buy the other stores operating in NC and SC or will someone buy them? SEG will not continue to run them and they sold the distribution center to Food Lion, so if no buyer comes along and builds new distribution center they are toast. There are a quantity of quality BI-LO store ...

Re: Food Lion To Buy 62 Bi-Lo / Harvey's Stores From Southeastern Grocers

Wasn't Harvey's also owned by Food Lion's owner before? I thought Harvey's and Kash N Karry were linked together. I wonder why SE Grocers is retaining the Harvey's banner at all. They should just convert everything to Winn Dixie. I am assuming whatever Bi-Los they keep will convert to Winn Dixie. I...

Re: The Future of Buffets, Salad Bars, and Self Serve?

i don't see hometown buffet and sweet tomatoes surviving too much longer once restaurants reopen, they were already shuttering locations before this happened. sizzler may do away with the salad bar once they reopen and it will be interesting to see if other buffets do go to more of a cafeteria mode...

Re: Rite Aid changes logo

Rite Aid changing its logo is the least of its problems. First, the new logo looks worse than the current logo. Why waste time and money changing it? Second, Rite Aid needs to decide if it is in growth mode by adding store locations, or selling out to a competing drugstore considering it has fewer s...

Re: AMC Theaters expected to file for bankruptcy

Movie theater chains have struggled in recent years with high admission and concession prices, declining attendances, and seats not being filled. Some will survive if they change their strategies.

AMC Theaters have been in danger for years.

Re: WD Issues

I think their private equity owner is still hopeful it could sell all or some of the chain to a competitor and cash in, but that's increasingly unlikely. SE Grocer's biggest strength was from New Orleans, around the Gulf Coast and through Northern Florida, but they've been closing stores and bleedi...

Re: WD Issues

I am most curious that they took a few of those Lucky's locations. I would not have expected any growth out of them. Maybe the leases went cheaply, but the store sizes are small and it will take some remodeling to make those into the usual Winn Dixie. Jumping on the Lucky's location acquisition ban...

Not likely. It's more likely they're just piling on more debt and management fees to keep it going for a long as they can.
Southeastern Grocers has a quantity of underachieving stores that are increasing debt.

Being acquired by BI-LO and being part of Southeastern Grocers has not helped Winn-Dixie or BI-LO.
How do they stay open...?

I guess cost of business is that low in their regions...
Southeastern Grocers' stores likely stay open through Lone Star Funds' other investments.
