Re: Westfield Says It Is Done With The U.S.
...Also these foreign malls are very comfortable with including supermarkets, home improvement stores, theaters etc. and clearly have been for decades - while multi use only became popular in the late 1990s as the traditional US shopping mall began to decline with the mass consolidation of departme...

Re: Albertsons closing Irvine, CA
Allegedly, Aldi was interested in the former Rite Aid space in the same plaza, and Irvine Company said no, so I assume they will have another grocer soon... Of course they would. Can't have a discount grocer in their upscale neighborhood... (ALthough it's not clear whether this interest was s...

Re: Whole Foods Closures
The Englewood store looks pretty rough, and was probably a result of some sort of political deal.... The City of Chicago actively courted Whole Foods to build a store in Englewood because they are a "healthy" grocer. Jewel-Osco, Food4Less, Tony's, Pete's, and Cermak Fresh Market all sell ...

Re: Walgreens pushing credit cards
That Synchrony group is apparently pretty big - they do cards around here (NY) for a local chain of tire and muffler type shops. Not sure exactly what they offer, but I suspect it may be open to some that would not as easily qualify for the major company cards, as that way they still have an option...

Sam's Club is rolling out a new logo for its Member's Mark private label and is focusing it on sustainable products. https://www.supermarketnews.com/sustainability/sam-s-club-recasts-member-s-mark-purpose-driven-brand?fbclid=IwAR1RrP0rbpranrDbND0HSp0o-Z9zBYrwQKOai8mcmTpD7w8ddb8GNwxO_9M I'm surprise...

Re: Westfield Says It Is Done With The U.S.
My brother reminded me that Westfield took over The Shops at North Bridge on North Michigan Avenue in Chicago and renamed the mall, you guessed it, "Westfield Shoppingtown North Bridge." After a hue and cry by the very upscale tenants,, the business association of the very upscale street, ...

Re: Westfield Says It Is Done With The U.S.
They'd dumped Vancouver (Clark County, Wash.) Mall a while ago, and it seems to be doing fine under current owners. I do think some of the renovations and changes at Southcenter helped keep it relevant in the longer-term, so I don't feel the same dislike of Westfield that some Americans do. What is...

Re: Westfield Says It Is Done With The U.S.
The European owner of Westfield is aiming to get rid of their malls in the U.S. by 2023. This will result in potentially steep losses for the company. No great loss. It wasn't as if the "Westfield" name resonated with customers. When they rebranded University Towne Centre in San Diego &qu...

Re: West Elm closing Reno, NV
Makes me wonder how their store is doing in Palm Springs within that poorly planned downtown center. At least that was actually a downtown center, and planned for retail, and people were aware it was there. I didn't realize how many of these types of locations this West Elm chain picked. COV...
