Fashion Valley San Diego JCPenney to be booted for apartments

The busiest, and arguably one of the best kept and operated JCPenney stores I have seen in SoCal is going to be booted from the Fashion Valley mall to build apartments, even though it is surrounded by delayed or canceled apartment projects. There is plenty of land adjacent to develop instead and a g...

Re: 99 CENT ONLY closing

That is a massive closure round to close everything left on Sunday. I think at least half of the stores are still open. Shelving was sold at the stores that closed in my area and one store got rid of quite a bit of shelving. I don't think the others sold any shelving. I have yet to see them sell an...

Re: Target Lowers Prices on 5,000 Items for the Summer

Back on topic, Target has a total operating margin of 5.4%. Last year it was 3.7%, indicating that maybe a maximum of 1.7% of any given price increase was discretionary to increase profit. Or your $100.00 transaction became $101.70. And we know that isn't really accurate either as Target had problem...

Re: Official: Red Lobster files Chapter 11

It has nothing to do with the shrimp. Ridiculous media interpretation trying to distract from the real issue the private equity rape of the chain. Must have assigned the politics reporters to this story. Tying up contracts has a lot to do with these things, in this case, Red Lobster's majority owne...

Re: 99 CENT ONLY closing

According to ads on Facebook, Sunday is the final day for all stores. I haven't inquired directly about fixtures, but I have noticed they're not selling much. Free-standing items seem to be sold while shelving and perimeters are being left alone. Maybe they had a bid for the entire lot of shelving?...

Re: Self Check Outs

Not seeing item limits in NorCal much on these self checkouts. I've seen one Wal Mart with a 20 item limit but they already removed all of their horrible store made signs they had posted about it... there is another Wal Mart who put signs up that said 15 items or less on all of the self checkouts a...

Re: Official: Red Lobster files Chapter 11

I'm glad to see that the media is stepping up and doing a better job of exposing the actions of these private equity firms, and the preposterous rhetorical argument that endless shrimp doomed the company served as an excellent foil to the truth. Usually the media doesn't really give more than a few ...

Re: New Albertsons Interior Southern California

So the Unions now allow 3 hour shifts? That's weird and plainly WRONG! I was shocked when I first heard it directly from an Albertsons employee standing next to me and talking to a cashier (who was totally ignoring me the customer as he rang up my transaction) that they were scheduled by "the ...

Re: Official: Red Lobster files Chapter 11

Red Lobster's days became numbered when Darden spun them off. They were already dwindling, and quality has gone downhill. Last time I was in one was a couple of years ago in Baton Rouge, which somehow stayed open through this. On a Saturday night in one of the busiest areas of the state, the entire...

Re: Dom's and Foxtrot Closed, Chapter 7 BK

Interesting post-mortem on the bankruptcy. A co-founder was the successful bidder for the assets. The banker took their offer which essentially shutout employees, suppliers, etc. who were planning to sue. https://slate.com/business/2024/05/foxtrot-venture-capital-businesses-bankruptcy-creditors-pay...
