Re: Nordstrom going to Private Equity?

They've probably hit a tipping point with the Rack stores where they can't add much more made-for-outlet stuff, although they are more interesting to visit than Marshall's. The problem for all these places is that outside of the bubble that occurred around COVID because of bottlenecks, there is les...

Re: Store Evacuations

I am surprised by the lack of PA systems. Even if the PA system is for emergency use only, it should be present. I have concerns about the health effects of some stores where the employees wear headsets all day and talk to each other via these headsets. Radiation and such concerns. I know we all ha...

Re: Store Evacuations

A local Costco near me had a chemical spill. Employees noticed a white cloud moving through the store. This led to an evacuation of the entire store. An estimated 1,000 people were in the store at the time. I have been in several stores during emergency evacuations. Some were orderly and some were ...

Re: Do Google Reviews indicate a store's performance??

I am wondering if Google Reviews are an indicator of how a store is performing?? Does the Best Buy in Park City having only 735 reviews versus the average store having about 2,000 reviews indicate that store's underperformance. Or OfficeMax in Tupelo, Mississippi only having 126 reviews despite bei...

Re: Red Lobster Considering Bankruptcy Filing

I made only a couple visits to the Irvine El Torito Grill, as there was no free parking. One visit was after they first opened. I recall that much of the menu overlapped with El Torito. For example, the Sizzlin’ Fajita was identical but priced a couple dollars more. They had steak fajitas made with...

Re: 99 CENT ONLY closing

I think the liquidation has been very successful. Many of the SoCal stores have only general merchandise remaining, with everything left marked 80% off. I don’t think the general merchandise was ever a hit…. 50-80% off sales were fairly common. This stuff was added in the last few years - high marg...

Re: In-N-Out opening in Washington

A former Rite Aid in Vancouver, WA may soon become an In-N-Out: https://www.kptv.com/2024/04/24/in-n-out-seeks-out-second-spot-sw-washington/ It will be interesting to see how much further north they expand. Seems like they would do well with areas such as Woodland, Kelso, and Chehalis where there ...

Re: Aldi lists job openings at multiple warehouses and nearly 30 stores in Northern California

Too bad I do not see all that in my shopping radius and of course I and many others are not going to take a chance and travel to find out if it is true (for food purposes). I would agree with that statement in that their newer stores are still in suburban areas. The more urban areas are older store...

Re: Kroger will also sell Haggen banner to C&S

If C&S is actually serious about owning and operating their own supermarkets, as I think I saw on a different thread, maybe they should bring Bob Mariano? He would know how to operate a Haggen. Plus he could improve QFC. While Carrs is basically a Safeway, his expertise wouldn't hurt! Also nobo...

Re: Nordstrom going to Private Equity?

Many of their closures have been small markets in the Pacific NW that probably date back to when they bought Best. I'd imagine these either had cheap long-term leases or were owned by them but never generated much volume. The Best stores were only in Seattle with one store in Portland. They may hav...
