Re: WSJ: Rite Aid plans 400-500 store closures in pending bankruptcy filing
The entire west coast operation is legally "Thrifty Payless" from a licensing perspective. It is just that Payless name that they sold. However a quick visit to the trademark database seems to reveal that the OR group who bought the Payless name has let those trademarks die. Someone tried...

Re: Target announcing closures in Portland, Ore.; Seattle, Wash.; California; Harlem
It will be interesting to see what happens next in Portland. There was a full size store at 122nd & Glisan that closed years ago. While watching the news tonight, KPTV also had a report citing Gateway and Cascade Station as high theft areas. Gateway has the Fred Meyer with extra security measur...

Re: Lowe's Invests In Employees & Has Lower Theft
There is a large customer segment that does not need the highest quality tools. This is why chains like Harbor Freight are so successful. What I don't like about what Home Depot is doing is they seem to be trying to move to more private label, but the prices still look like the type of prices you'd...

Re: New Starbucks CEO making in-store changes after 6 months as a barista
Prediction: Watch this guy bleed this corporation toward desiccation. Working in the stores for 6 months, huh? Indeed........................ ;) Somehow I think this guy is going to surprise us. The screaming roar of the unions has turned into a whimper. He was supposed to be under the wing of Schu...

Re: Target announcing closures in Portland, Ore.; Seattle, Wash.; California; Harlem
A few observations: There's another WF closer to downtown on Broadway--I was there in February and it still seems to be there. The East Harlem store is part of a cluster of big box stores that includes Costco. Target is opening a new store in Central Harlem, so they have some commitment to the area...

Re: Save Mart loses lease-Tahoe City, CA
The question is what's going in to replace it? Obviously they were at end of term, thought they were going to be able to renew but landlord probably had rights to seek other offers. Or tear it down entirely and build something more lucrative. I'm more likely to believe the rug got pulled out from un...

Re: 8 Ohio CVS Stores "dangerously" understaffed
Playing devil's advocate here... Is this because they've cut the hours to zero, or is it because they aren't staffed/can't get staffed? Common denominator may be the same, but curious because if they're all running short pharmacists and technicians that is different from the company ordering staffin...

Re: Kroger to merge with Albertsons?
The merger hasn’t been stopped yet, but the Feds are staring to put the hammer down: https://www.supermarketnews.com/retail-financial/ftc-chair-voices-concern-over-kroger-albertsons-merger Kahn sounds weak. "We aren't really even able to enforce the rules." Really? Then what exactly are y...
