Re: Kroger "big announcement coming" on branding

An article from Business Insider quotes an internal leaked memo that states Kroger is #17 in the Fortune 500 but isn't in the top 100 for brand value. What they seem to be missing is outside of the territory where Kroger operates Kroger-brand stores no one cares about Kroger as a brand. Shoppers ca...

Re: Walmart observations

Last week I was in Las Vegas for a few days, and when we visited a Walmart there (the one on Charleston Boulevard) I observed that almost the entire HBA section of the store (as well as most of the tool section) was being kept in locked cabinets. When I made a purchase, I had to find an employee to...

Re: State of Food Lion in the Washington D.C. area

I have only now found out about these, but the Food Lions in Chantilly (South Riding) and Laskin Rd in Virginia Beach are closing along with Haymarket. The South Riding store I was not expecting as much to close, considering it was less maligned than the Haymarket location and still had a purpose. ...

Re: State of Food Lion in the Washington D.C. area

What I'd say comprises the 20% are their fringe stores, like those in this region and outlying states such as Georgia and Tennessee. Out of everything, I am the most certain these stores will stay and join the remodel program. If you look at what Ahold has done with Giant one will note that any sto...

Re: Fry’s Electronics on Life Support

Microcenter seems to be very selective as to where they open locations. I didn't realize it but they only have 25 stores nationwide. I'm lucky that I have a Microcenter store near me. They are competitively priced and have the products that I am looking for. They avoid me having to mail order comput...

Re: Target Dance Music

Target's recent remodels (ie the Sterling , VA store off Route 7) look like an ode to what they think millennial shoppers want in a store. No problem with them catering to a certain demographic. However as a store they have to consider that folks might come in and go what the heck happened in here I...

Re: Target Registers Fail Nationwide

These systems are far from fool proof. It is interesting Target did not have a back up mode or offline mode that would allow transactions to keep processing. But that causes a lot of problems as inventory tracking, pricing, etc. would not be available. Also it is strange timing for this to happen, ...

Re: Crucial times for Shoppers

It will be very interesting to see who the buyer is, or if we have "buyers." I'm just trying to figure out who would be interested in the Shoppers stores. Aldi or Lidl taking a portion of a store? International grocery stores? ShopRite especially in Baltimore where they already have stores? Giant h...

Re: Kroger sells Turkey Hill brand

I've always wondered what the goal was for Kroger owning Turkey Hill. Was it for the convenience stores? Was it to have dairy products for their stores or a dairy product manufacturer? There are no Kroger owned stores in Pennsylvania. The closest are the Harris Teeter store in Baltimore, MD.

Re: Ahold Delhaize (Stop & Shop) buys King Kullen

With as boring, uninspired, and high priced as Stop & Shop is, it is hard to imagine King Kullen was any worse. This is clearly a loss. And there appear to be a lot of overlapping stores. Any thought as to who might be interested in any overlapping stores? The only big players I can think of are Ac...
