Re: Bed Bath & Beyond: Dying?

I was in Bed, Bath and Beyond recently. The store near me has been remodeled into the prototype shown in the pictures up-thread. Things are a lot neater inside and the shelving units are lower making the store look less warehousey with merchandise stacked way up that you can't get at without help. T...

Re: Winchester/Front Royal: Martin's Monopoly?

Giant has multiple stores in Fredericksburg, so Weis has to deal with them in terms of the mid-market niche. Fredericksburg probably has an interesting history with chains. Winn-Dixie was there very briefly before their first bankruptcy. Safeway was there as was Ukorp's. I wouldn't be surpised if C...

Re: Walmart observations

This is not just an issue at Wal Mart. This is an issue at Target, Walgreens, Rite Aid, CVS, and various other retailers. In the case of Target, Walgreens, and Rite Aid the stated policy is that the store will match the website price no questions asked. At Target this process has been seamless when...

Re: Walmart observations

But for Walmart, Target and others they run the risk of upsetting the customer who sees a low price online and goes into the store only to find it higher on the shelf. This is the sort of thing that makes people either order online or go to another store altogether. Recently I was looking for a han...

Re: Target pulls trading cards from shelves

There was a fight over trading cards in a Target parking lot. https://www.wfaa.com/article/news/nation-world/target-trading-card-sales-suspended/507-846d9a6d-291c-440c-856d-b0a2f8d3536d And now it seems Walmart a Walmart in Erie, PA got rushed over Pokemon cards. https://news.yahoo.com/customers-rus...

Re: Discussion: Convenience stores / gasoline retailers

Are there still gas shortages? In California, the prices are not much higher and there is plenty of gas. Gas Buddy has a tracker on their web site where you can get the status of gas station's supplies based on member reports. The site appears to provide nationwide data. https://tracker.gasbuddy.co...

Re: Kroger- self checkout modification

Then again I use the Scan and Go app at Sam's Club all the time. The warehouse clubs have the mandatory receipt check at the door. And at Sam's they actually have to scan some of the merchandise to check against what you actually rang up. Scale or not in the Kroger cart I'm curious if their process...

Re: Winchester/Front Royal: Martin's Monopoly?

Well then I guess Winchester is a little too much of an extra push for the chain and wouldn't be such a Weis decision. They do have Stafford and Fredericksburg, but hardly any markets in between. You wouldn't want them to expand too much that it's going to be Harrisonburg, then Staunton, then Roano...

Re: Kroger- self checkout modification

Actually, Stop & Shop has similar ones (or at least did 3-4 years ago when I was last in one) for many of their self checks (even though I tended to use those less in favor of their scan and bag guns which most stores had). I'd suspect they work best if you have a couple people shopping togethe...

Re: Safeway Northern Virginia Changes

Albertsons has added additional staffing to the stores and is running much better ads than Safeway used to run. Certain regions/districts have also gotten price cut programs which was an initiative the old Safeway simply refused to seriously implement for enough of a time period for it to make a di...
