Re: Safeway East Consolidating into Acme

Albertsons closed the Safeway Upper Marlboro, MD DC earlier this year: https://www.foodtradenews.com/2020/01/28/albertsons-to-close-upper-marlboro-md-dc-denver-pa-depot-will-add-safeway-business/ I wonder if Safeway will become more like or just a clone of Acme or Albertsons in the way that Giant-MD...

Re: Costco discontinues sheet cakes; retains 10 inch round cakes

Also seems that, while an issue at that time, it wouldn't necessarily be one on a regular basis, so it seems kind of odd to make a change on what was (hopefully) a one time problem. I was a Costco member from 2014-2016. I had joined to use their car buying service and then stayed until I realized I...

A higher minimum wage is one of several reasons why you see Target and other large chains rely so much on self checkout though.
Walmart has a test store with only self-checkout:

Re: Safeway sued for price gouging toilet paper

I went to Safeway yesterday and the toilet paper aisle was basically full, about 50% of this imported product and 50% of store brand, Charmin, and a tiny amount of Quilted Northern (who has just downsized their packages, again). Safeway also had some big packages of "White Cloud" which seemed to be...

Re: Loose Bakery

Vons, Albertsons and Pavilions have all donuts, bagels, muffins and loose bread (rolls, croissants, etc.) in individual plastic boxes in the cases. But you can't buy one donut or roll, for example, anymore. They are packaged as 2, 3 or more. The prices aren't double or triple the individual donut p...

Re: Food Lion To Buy 62 Bi-Lo / Harvey's Stores From Southeastern Grocers

Although only technically, as Food Lion is part of the Delhaize arm (they and Ahold sort of joined together, but only partially, not a complete merger). I wonder if Ahold Delhaize USA has ways to go to get stores (Food Lion, Hannaford, Giant (Landover, Maryland), Giant (Carlisle, Pennsylvania), Sto...

THIS...............is different! It feels different! THIS...............is different! It feels different! The US has been divided politically and socially for a while. We've had two political parties that have been at war with each other since the 2016 election. We have people living lives simply t...

Re: Chickfila "reopening guide"

Now that we can finally tap to pay at most places... finally... It took way longer than it should have. And you have outfits like Kroger, Wal Mart, Home Depot, Wendy's, and Lowe's that still can't get on board and make the clean safe Contactless tap payment happen. And in the case of Kroger, Wal Ma...

Re: Stores Returning to Regular Hours

Many stores in my area have the Mexico paper products and also seem to be having similar trouble moving the stuff. The packages feel kind of light for the prices being charged (like .99 for a single roll of bath tissue). I am guessing at some point they will blow it out (at which point I will be st...

Re: Stores Returning to Regular Hours

I'm curious to know when Walmart will move back to more regular hours. Still 7 AM to 8:30 PM around me - regular stores and Supercenters. Walmart is quite crowded in the afternoons especially. I was at Walmart around 7:45 PM earlier in the week. Given the amount of people in the store plus whoever w...
