Re: Kroger to merge with Albertsons?
Stores were able to survive before loyal cards and they will survive after. What they won't have without loyalty cards is customer data. I'd consider the sale price the "freebie" we get in the same way you get social media for free by giving away your data via posts to the social media com...

Re: Kroger to merge with Albertsons?
Here's a little food for thought 🤔 IMHO, the entirety of monikers and their histories have been severely compromised. Merger after merger has deteriorated the value and reputation of these nameplates. Some have managed to retain some of their prestige more than others (King Soopers better than Ralp...

Re: Walmart 2023 Closings
The thing is the Supercenter stores Wal Mart closes tend to be high volume stores. Everyone is shocked by the closures in most cases when a Supercenter closes. Is Walmart afraid to admit the reasons for their stores failing despite high volume? If they claim theft over and over they are admitting t...

Re: Walmart 2023 Closings
It appears that Walmart is feeling pressure in all aspects of it's business. In addition to these scattered store closings they're also laying off hundreds of workers at some e-commerce fulfillment centers. https://www.reuters.com/business/retail-consumer/walmart-laying-off-hundreds-us-workers-five...

Re: Kroger to merge with Albertsons?
I think there is something with HT that we do not know about that is keeping it separate, for now. I question how long that will go on. Their TopCo contract must be a real iron tight thing that cannot be broken. I don't see it being sold- it is too good of an asset. Also not sure who would buy it. ...

Re: Krispy Kreme Discontinues Grocery Store Line
$1.79 for a donut?! I thought $1 each at Safeway on the east cost was bad. They used to be 59 cents a piece before all the price increases.

Re: Kroger to merge with Albertsons?
Also note that the FTC has no leverage over the buyers and can't make them do anything. They can't say "you can't close the store for X years" or anything like that. The FTC can say that the surviving entity in the merger cannot open stores in overlap areas for x years. The combined Ahold...

"We're desperate, get used to it, it's merge or we get killed" - Kroger/Albertsons    Sounds an awful lot like the we are too big to fail statements made about the banks during the 2008 banking crisis. This whole merger seems to be about paying back private equity involved ...

Re: Chick-fil-a Data Breach
But none of this seems to be stopping the crowds at their locations. They are doing an unbelievable business almost everywhere I go. Do people still view Chik-Fil-A as the "anti-fast food" fast food type of restaurant? Sort of how people think Target is somehow better than Walmart because...
