Re: New anti-theft Walgreens store has just 2 aisles of touchable merchandise

I'll preface this by saying I'm not a fan of this kiosk business. That said, it is important to keep in mind that this store is located in an area where people will walk to the store. Between the proximity to a major 'L' station (Roosevelt - subway stop on the Red Line, the busiest 'L' line in the ...

Re: Nordstrom, Saks Off 5th Closing San Francisco

The mayor talked about turning the mall into housing such as luxury condominiums. The movie theater is closing as well. This leaves a huge amount of top floor space for luxury penthouse condos. However, you have to sell the city as clean and safe otherwise no one will want to live in this area. The...

Re: Kroger opening distribution center in Maryland

Delivery seems to be in decline. The people doing the shopping for it at Whole Foods used to be unavoidable most mornings duirng COVID. I rarely see them or deliveries to where I live now. This probably is not the best time to establish a new delivery brand--they may figure that the Harris-Teeter b...

Re: Nordstrom, Saks Off 5th Closing San Francisco

Westfield has stopped payments along with Brookfield and will allow the bank to foreclose on the center. https://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/westfield-abandoning-downtown-sf-mall-18148703.php I opened a new thread over on the Shopping Centers category. The dominos are really starting to fall... ...

Re: Illinois Grocery To Reinstate Grocery Tax

The prevailing state sales tax rate is charged on food in most of the South. Elsewhere, it's an exercise in the arcane.

Re: Westfield San Francisco Centre

Nothing very remarkable about this. Every large mall owner has let any number of their properties be foreclosed---they create shell corporations for individual malls that make this possible, without adverse effects on their overall credit. Westfield has been slowly leaving the US for quite awhile. I...

Re: New anti-theft Walgreens store has just 2 aisles of touchable merchandise

i have a feeling that soon enough, that they might try a curbside pickup/delivery only model where all items must be preordered from the website to keep shoplifters out. The way these people have handled shoplifters I'm not sure if this new format will change anything. They've let multiple people j...

Re: Wegmans to close Natick, MA location

Exactly. There were things that Albertsons did that their competitors didn't and that ended up running them out of many areas. One example was copying the California policy to have only half of their lights on. So while their competitors are doing their usual business in a brightly lit store, Alber...

Re: Wegmans to close Natick, MA location

The mall has lost all of its high end anchors and Wegmans replaced a JCPenney. Part of the problem may be size of the store 134K and the location. The mall seems to be trying to experiment with things, like golfing and a Wayfair pop-up.
