Re: Bath and Body Works Opening 90 Off Mall Stores

The company is opening 90 off mall stores, but closing 50 mall locations. Are their mall locations doing so badly that they are moving to off mall locations? The off mall locations might be really cheap to rent. https://chainstoreage.com/bath-body-works-open-90-mall-stores-activist-investor-eyes-ch...

Re: Walmart 2023 Closings

Focusing on online retail is a pander to Wall Street, and a pander to affluent people who rarely shop at Walmart. It might somewhat alienate Walmart's working-class, exurban, church-going, pickup truck driving customer base. The foundation of mail order (Sears, Wards) was rural people; online shopp...

Re: Walmart 2023 Closings

It appears that Walmart is feeling pressure in all aspects of it's business. In addition to these scattered store closings they're also laying off hundreds of workers at some e-commerce fulfillment centers. https://www.reuters.com/business/retail-consumer/walmart-laying-off-hundreds-us-workers-five...

Re: Walmart 2023 Closings

I think there will be more closings and they will dribble out as they have--a few here, a few there, quietly with a few weeks between announcements. They don't want people paying too much attention or making a big deal out of their closing what really has been a small percentage of their stores, so ...

Re: Kroger to Open 3 Marketplace Stores in North Texas

They've opened a couple in the Atlanta area. They may think this makes them more comeptitive with Walmart (which has almost as much market share as they do there).

Re: Krispy Kreme Discontinues Grocery Store Line

They've been in and out of supermarkets for at least 20 years. Kroger used to sell dozen packs when I lived in Atlanta. They've come and gone at Giant-Landover. Given that their signature donuts are at their best (and still not great) when they're "fresh" (i.e.., freshly thawed/cooked), I'...

Re: A deeper look into dollar stores....

The podcast was interesting. I'm impressed at the breadth of thinking that went into looking at dollar store operation and their anticipating inevitable defenses based on pricing that's unsustainable. That Walmart was often a long-term liability to communities usually only sank-in when they left to ...

It's more than just getting out of malls (a lot of those stores will be Champs locations). They're making significant changes to their foreign operations and going in more new directions then described in the first link https://footwearnews.com/2023/business/retail/foot-locker-closing-stores-1203434...

Re: JCPenney closings 2023

It's a small store in secondary shopping area, originally built for Strouss' which was the local May chain. I'm surprised it didn't close long ago.
