Re: Tom Thumb to enter Waxahachie

Plus, Albertsons and H-E-B co-exist in Cleburne, how would you explain that? I don't know enough about Cleburne to comment. But there is also an Albertsons that co-exists with an HEB in Burleson, Tx, a suburb of Fort Worth down the highway from Cleburne with vastly larger retail options. Also, not ...

Re: Tom Thumb to enter Waxahachie

Promising an H-E-B then pulling the rug out from under them and opening a discount bag-your-own grocery store harm their brand equity just as bad, if not worst, then a low-end H-E-B. HEB has not promised anybody anything with regard to the former Albertsons location it purchased in the Redbird area...

Re: Tom Thumb to enter Waxahachie

The real challenge will be if H-E-B has a less-than-high-end store that is closer to WinCo's consumer and product mix. As for Walmart, H-E-B definitely stifled the growth of Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market in Houston (only a handful of stores opened and even less are open today) with their Pantry stor...

Re: Tom Thumb to enter Waxahachie

The most biggest chink in the armor is the public expecting that every H-E-B opened will be this 100k+ square foot palace with an in-store eatery, which couldn't be farther from the truth. I believe they bought the former Albertsons in Redbird or the plot of land next to it--and not only will that ...

Re: Tom Thumb to enter Waxahachie

Well that is how HEB does volume. They push cheap products out. I have said it before; HEB is no Hy Vee and is no Publix either. That is why I can't wait to watch HEB vs. WinCo play out. I am not a Texan so I know what side of that team I am rooting for, and which side of that team I think has a be...

Re: Albertsons to reopen former Minyard/Fiesta in Irving

WinCo is a competitor that plays the game on price. They double down on price and they will hold prices down and force competitors to either hold prices down too or look stupid. This will absolutely impact HEB. WinCo's pricing is much stronger than Wal Mart's pricing. WinCo buys massive quantities ...

Re: Albertsons to reopen former Minyard/Fiesta in Irving

I really think WinCo has thrown a bit of a curve in HEB's plans. It was bold for WinCo to make the expansion move they did, given the ongoing "HEB is coming" talk. Too much talk and too little action from HEB, I guess. At least something is finally happening, though the cynical side of me...

Re: Albertsons to reopen former Minyard/Fiesta in Irving

But that doesn't explain why H-E-B seems more willing to go head-to-head against Kroger with their initial entrance into DFW and seems hesistant to open stores that would compete directly with Tom Thumb / Albertsons. Perhaps some combination of: 1) People stuck with Albertsons/Tom Thumb as their cl...

Re: WinCo Foods full page ad in Sunday Dallas Morning News

Standard "basket comparison" like one sometimes sees in their (or other) stores. 11/29/2021 basket shop WinCo: $99.92 Kroger: $134.61 Walmart: $123.01 Observe that Albertsons/Tom Thumb are not on the comparison list. Perhaps they assume it is a given in most people's minds that the notion...

Re: WinCo Foods full page ad in Sunday Dallas Morning News

A few possibilities occur to me: Perhaps sales at the D/FW stores are not at a level the company had hoped they would be. They opened a huge distribution center in Denton just north of D/FW in 2017 at the same time they announced an expansion of three locations in the Oklahoma City area that would a...
