Re: J.C. Penney hires former Shopko executive to aid turnaround

Both JCP in my area have the hours until 9 PM. The Reno one in the mall, I am not surprised as there is traffic there until 9 PM. One of them down in Carson City is a freestanding store and Carson City Stores in general have very, very little traffic after about 7 PM. Not sure why it is still open ...

Re: Bed Bath & Beyond: Dying?

I go in BBB occasionally to look at things, but I have never actually bought anything in store. I have however, bought a few things from them online. The last time I had something come from them was actually unexpected. I bought the item on eBay because the price was really good compared to others, ...

Re: Dollar Tree Buying Family Dollar

Dollar Tree here was originally "Everything's $1". Don't recall what was in the building before that, but originally it was actually a Sears Catalog store back in the 70s. It's definitely been remodeled inside since then (I think likely when it had become Everything's $1) but the windows and doors a...

Re: Aeropostale

Technically the old Aero went under and went out of business (fully liquidated its goods and closed up shop). Some mall landlords bought the brand name and have kept the chain running in a limited number of locations which is the new Aero. The local store in my area is as you describe as well; clea...

Kohls

I stopped at a Kohl's this week for the first time, since there are none in my area. My overall impressions were that it was a nicely laid out and stocked store. The clothing seemed good quality. But overall, it didn't really seem to have anything to offer than what a typical Belk, JCPenney or such ...

Aeropostale

I was out of town at a mall I hadn't been to since probably 2012. Surprisingly the Aeropostale store there was still open. Seems Aero has cleaned things up a bit. The last time I had been the store was very dark and the music was very loud. Mostly there where tables of merchandise that had been some...

Re: Sears/Kmart: Will 2020 be the end?

I don't think anyone would want Kmart, or Sears either at this point. The remaining locations are too scattered to allow for any logistical efficiency. Not to mention many of the older locations probably need too much repair and updating due to years (decades?) of deferred maintenance.

Re: Wendy's

Here there were once two Wendy's in town, but now just one. The one that closed was a 1970s location that had never really had a remodel, it closed about 5 years ago. It was since gutted and converted to a Popeye's Chicken. The location that remains is an early 2000s outparcel location. It has not h...

Re: Dollar Tree Buying Family Dollar

The Dollar Tree here is generally an ok store. The biggest issue I see is due to their not hiring many staff, there is often only one checkout open which leads to grumpy customers and in turn a grumpy and overworked clerk. Lately they seem to be getting better about having two open, I think when I w...

Re: Sears/Kmart: Will 2020 be the end?

A lot of people speculated they may indeed pull the plug after this holiday season. But the same has been said for about the last 5 years so who knows. I think few if any retailers had a great season this year with the increasing amount online shopping. But from what I understand Sears and Kmart rea...
