Re: Lack of Whole Foods North County San Diego
Good info, forgot about how Frazier has the far north end covered and Cardiff handling the coast. Leaves inner Carlsbad or Encinitas as the white space. Amazes me the Gelsons in Del Mar is a strong performer. It's typically a ghost town inside and there's rarely activity in the sushi / to-go area. T...

Lack of Whole Foods North County San Diego
There was a WF in Encinitas along the 101 that closed in 2015. Aside from that the furthest north location is in Del Mar off the 5 and a smallish one at that. I’m surprised there’s nothing at all near Carlsbad given the income and health focus of the market. Is Jimbos that strong? I’d figure at this...

Looks more Eataly than H Mart in execution. Curious to see how it plays out.

Trader Joe’s, Jimbos, and Vons all within a block of that Major…pretty impressive to hold out.

Re: SpinCo
I'm torn on San Diego County. Vons has a bigger presence than Ralphs, but Ralphs has a newer fleet, and their stores are larger. Still, divesting Vons to Spinco would be easy and less costly than re-bannering the stores to Ralphs. As others have said, OC is much more difficult to unwind. I'm wonder...

To add to the market sub segmentation theme… They’re still expanding the gourmet Andronicos name in Norcal - this one opened in Sea Cliff SF earlier this year with yet another project from the College of Western Idaho design students who did the Pavilions package https://www.google.com/search?gs_ssp...

Re: Monochromatic colors
Not a good look agree - it’s been a big home interior trend for about 5 years now but seems to be going back to warmer and more colorful looks in the last year.

Re: Safeway NorCal Remodels and New Stores
Encinitas Vons just redone last month from Phase 1 Lifestyle - and got the cursive font colorful Lifestyle - not the seemingly more recent stark Florida package. Floors being torn up not clear what the end result will be but ceiling still the distinct soft Lifestyle beige. That Encinitas store is m...

Re: Safeway NorCal Remodels and New Stores
A Safeway in San Ramon, California is receiving a new decor that I have not seen before. The remodel is much more thorough than the cheap Florida Decor that the Flagship Safeway in Dublin recently received. The floors are being redone with white tile. The aisle signs are of a new design that I have...

Re: Safeway NorCal Remodels and New Stores
A Safeway in Pleasanton, California has the Florida decor and the old brown tile floor. Concrete was not used. Other chains are no longer switching to concrete floors. Target remodeled the Walnut Creek, California store and added concrete floors. They then decided that there were too many cracks an...
